Marvin Carl Niemeyer passed away December 2, 2012. He was born in a small farming community near Falls City, Nebraska, to Fred and Sena (Ohlensehlen) Niemeyer on June 8, 1917. A man not suited for farming, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1937. He was assigned to the USS Dale, and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, after which he was honorably discharged in June of 1941. Marvin met and married his wife, Irene (Schultz), in 1939. From this union they had five daughters. Marvin and his family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1955, where he worked in the sheet metal trade until his retirement in 1980. Shortly before his retirement, he and Irene moved to Washington state. In 1993, Marvin lost his beloved wife after 54 years of marriage. Since 2010, he was a resident of Hawthorne Court retirement center, where he will be remembered as a man who enjoyed the outdoors. His closest friends will remember him as a man who loved any reason to celebrate the good things life had to offer. We all will surely miss him. The family would especially like to thank all of the staff at Hawthorne Court Retirement Center for their unwavering dedication to the care of our father. Marvin was preceded in death by: parents Fred and Sena (Ohlensehlen) Niemeyer, siblings Delores (Fritz) and Donald, and granddaughter, Abigail Tencza. He is survived by: five daughters, Beverly (Meyer), Kathleen (Brown), Marva Kay (Clutter), Gayle (Dirkes), Bonita (Puntney), six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
