Martin O. "Mo" Rankin died June 11, 2013 at the age of 82. Born May 31, 1931 in Torrington, Wyoming, Martin graduated from Torrington High School in 1949 and continued on to the University of Wyoming to earn a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1953. Martin was employed as an engineer for General Electric, Battelle Labs, and Westinghouse Hanford, developing and testing instrumentation systems for radiological monitoring for a Waste Solidification project and the Fast Flux Test Reactor until 1978 when he retired and became active in developing real estate. In March of 1957, he married his devoted wife of 56 years Valerie Berg. He loved to water ski and SCUBA dive and spent many enjoyable hours with his family and friends both locally and in the San Juan Islands. He also enjoyed light farming, gardening, and building. He was an inventor at heart and was always building or designing some new gadget. Martin is survived by his wife Valerie Rankin, his son John Rankin and daughter-in-law Joan Rankin of Puyallup and his daughter Valerie Lorenzo and son-in-law Brian Lorenzo of Kennewick, four grandchildren (Cole Fluharty, Cody Fluharty, Kylie Lorenzo and Cole Lorenzo) and four great-grandchildren (Noa Fluharty, Ronin Fluharty, Heath Wick, and Lukas Wick), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express special thanks to Fleur de' Lis Adult Family Homes at Canyon Lakes, Kennewick and all those who worked so hard to make Martin comfortable by providing loving care. Thank you also to Dr. Stanley Hales for his care of Martin for over thirty years.
