Mrs. Marie Cecilia "Rhea" Bartholf, daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Miller) Pfeiffer, was born on September 19th, 1935 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Brown County. She attended Catholic grade schools and then Aberdeen High School of Brown County. She was proud to have been named the Catholic Daughter of the Year in her teen years. After attending secretarial school in Aberdeen, Marie made a bold move to leave her hometown and move to Denver, CO to seek a career as an executive secretary. She later moved to Sacramento, California where she worked her way to being executive secretary for the state under the head of the Department of Veterans Affairs. It was in Sacramento that Marie met the love of her life and future husband, Loren William Bartholf. They met while living in the same apartment complex and had their first date at the Bing Maloney golf course where Marie demonstrated her superior golf skills. They were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD, in September of 1963. After beginning married life in Sacramento, Loren, Marie and their four young kids moved to Kennewick, WA in the summer of 1973. After lovingly guiding and caring for her children through their formative years Marie returned to secretarial work with the Educational Service District (ESD 123) to help provide support for their college educations, which they all proudly achieved. In their retirement years Marie and Loren were able to spend some time as "Snow Birds" enjoying golf and other activities in the Palm Springs area. Marie had a gregarious personality and friendly nature that drew people to her and she had a smile on her face with a compliment for whoever she met. Marie's infectious laugh will forever remain in the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her. Marie especially loved doting on her four kids and eight grandkids. Marie peacefully departed this life Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Three Rivers Hospital in Brewster, WA. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margarie Parsons (Pfeiffer) of Helena, MT and Lainey Murray (Pfeiffer) of Morristown, TN, and her brothers, Ron Pfeiffer of Aberdeen, SD and Bill Pfeiffer of Aberdeen, SD.
