Margaret ?Margie? Anna Weis, 79, of Kennewick, Washington passed away November 5th, 2009 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Margie was born on April 3rd, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio as the 9th child of John and Margaret Pollauf. Growing up, Margie loved ice skating. During the Toledo winters when the lakes and ponds would freeze, she loved to put on her skates and take to the ice. Margie graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Toledo in 1948, having been an exceptional student. In June of 1951, Margie married John Weis and together they left Ohio for California. After a couple of miscarriages, Margie gave birth to their first child, Nicholas, in December 1952, followed by 8 more during the next 13 years. Margie took care of the children and the home, as it transitioned from Downey and Long Beach, California to Cocoa Beach, Florida to Anaheim, California and eventually to Kennewick, Washington. Although Margie enjoyed living in both California and Florida, she absolutely loved living in Washington State. She loved the fact that she could experience all four seasons, without the humidity she experienced growing up in Ohio. Margie was a devoted wife and mother, and dedicated her life to her family and the church. She instilled in her children the importance of being good to others and to help those in need. Margie was very practical, and believed that being wasteful was sinful, finding ways to re-use items that most people would just throw out. Even so, she was beyond generous and gave to more charities than you can count, from feeding the homeless, helping the sick, various missionary organizations, and the church. A priority and goal in Margie's life was to live a life worthy of getting to heaven. God was number one, and she lived life as a faithful servant. She attended daily mass as often as she could which was often, once the children were grown, and hosted bible studies and small church community groups. At various stages in her life, she was an active member of the Pro-Sanctity Movement, and the fight to respect the rights of the unborn. She was also a member of The Parish of The Holy Spirit in Kennewick. Margie suffered much while fighting off the cancer, but maintained a positive spirit and attitude throughout, rarely admitting to the pain and discomfort she was actually experiencing. She was a positive influence and inspiration to her friends, family, children, and grandchildren. She has been a blessing to all whose lives she touched, and will be missed more than words can express. Margie was preceded in death by her husband John, of 47 years, her oldest son Nicholas, parents John and Margaret, sisters Rose, Helen, and Dorothy Ashburn, and brothers Fr. Robert, S.J., John, and Jim. Margie is survived by her children Mary Dave DePauw , Susan Bruce Blakely, Stephen Kelly, Julie Tom Wallace, John Maria, Joseph Kathy, Andrew Karen and Paul, as well as her sister Mary Claver, S.N.D., and brothers William ?Bill?, George, and Edward ?Ed?, 36 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. There will be a Rosary service at 7:30 pm. Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home in Kennewick, with visitation beginning at 5:00pm. The funeral service will be held at The Parish of The Holy Spirit, at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11th, interment will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
