Margaret E. Hickman passed away on July 23rd 2013 at Kennewick Life Care in the presence of her eldest son Greg who was celebrating his 60th birthday. She was born on February 3rd 1932 to Louis and Ruby Chavez and lived in Kennewick for most of her life, except for early years when her family lived in Grand Coulee. Margaret graduated from River View High in 1949 and on March 16th 1951 wed the love of her life Robert Chester Hickman. Prior to her marriage Margaret worked for the telephone company but for most of her life she focused on the role of wife, homemaker and taking care of her family, helping Chet homestead property in south Kennewick where they raised 3 sons on their farm. They also had a daughter Cheryl that passed away as an infant. Mom was a very generous person who welcomed everyone to their home and there was always room for an extra plate at the table if someone stopped by. She was the type who led by example and never boasted or looked for recognition and preferred to stay in the background and not bring attention to herself. She loved her family and enjoyed spoiling her children, grandchildren and most recently her great-grandchildren. When she was younger she also enjoyed doing all types of crafts including knitting, crocheting, macramé and she even excelled in cake decorating and made multiple wedding cakes for family members. After dad retired, they did a lot of camping and fishing where she was the "chief cook and bottle washer". She also enjoyed playing cards, word search puzzles and listening to country music. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Ruby Chavez, brothers Louis Chavez and Dan Chavez, and numerous other family members, as well as daughter Cheryl Lynn Hickman and her husband Chet Hickman that she missed so much after his passing. Now she's "flying around heaven with her honey" and there aren't any needs for walkers or wheelchairs. She is survived by sisters Alpha Lechelt, Liz Averette and Patty (Bob) Lawley, and brothers Robert (Shirley) Chavez, Dick Chavez and Al (Theresa) Chavez, Francis (Irene) Hickman and Ruth Hickman as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members who at last week's reunion numbered 142 with several people unable to attend. She is also survived by children Greg (Renee) Hickman, Robert Hickman and Mike Hickman, grandchildren Crystal (Brandon) Wright, Tina (Lutz) Perner, Chris Hickman, Sierra Morton and Kaitlyn Hickman, great-grandchildren Jaxon, Campbell and Hazel Wright and Noah, Liam and Finnegan Perner The family would like to thank her team of doctors who patched her up for numerous years until she couldn't continue any longer, especially Dr.Kohan. Funeral services will be at Muellers Chapel of the Falls on Friday July 26th at 10:00 with graveside service following at Riverview Heights cemetery. A viewing will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday at Muellers Chapel of the Falls in Kennewick.
