Surrounded by loved ones, our beloved mom and grandmother, Margaret Barclay left this earth on April 27, 2011 to join her husband, Don, of 49 years in heaven. Margaret was born August 14, 1922 to Melvin and Annie McKay in Prince George, B.C. Canada. At an early age, her family moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada where Margaret spent most of her school and young adult years. The youngest of four, Margaret excelled both in academics and sports. Her skill in basketball helped lead her team to become the Ontario Champions in 1937 through 1940. Upon graduating from her high school, Margaret worked at Bell Telephone Company, Canada, completing her career as a supervisor. August 26, 1944, Margaret married Donald Barclay in Niagara Falls. They had three daughters; Bev, Cathy and Karen. They spent the early part of their marriage in Niagara Falls and Toronto. The family moved to Seattle, WA in 1961. A self-taught, multi-talented woman, Margaret shared her skills with her daughters. These skills touched all areas of life, from keeping a tight budget, playing a mean game of tennis, testing her mind with crossword puzzles, her hands with the ancient art of lace-making tatting, to creating mouth-watering goodies such as pies and cookies. She gave her skills not only as a homemaker, but through her lifetime association as a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild in the Seattle area. After the death of her husband, Don, in 1993 and due to health issues, Margaret moved from Seattle area to Kennewick, where she resided at the Manor of Canyon Lakes in her final months , at Fleur de' lis. She was a woman of dignity, fortitude and tenacity. Although her physical presence will be missed, her talents and teachings have been passed down to her three daughters; Bev Barclay Mark Ellicson, Scottsdale, AZ, Cathy Berges Gerry, Kennewick, WA and Karen Barclay, Sandpoint, ID, six grandchildren; Grant Wilson, Geoff Berges Jennifer, Krista Schei Kyle, David Berges Lesley, Hannah Berges and Ariana Watson, along with five great-grandchildren; Katie, William, Benjamin, Emma and Isaac. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers that touched our lives during Margaret's final year. You offered compassion, love and kindness not only to our mother, but to Margaret's family as well. Thank you.
