Madeline was born in Butte, Montana 8-30-1920 to John J. Setdar and Patricia Catherine Fahey of Butte, Montana and raised in Richland, WA after moving to a homestead on land just west of what is now the Richland airport when she was a year old. As a child Madeline recalled life without electricity and indoor plumbing living in a log cabin, swimming in the old wooden flume, and chucking "Cow pies" at her sister Rose while running through the pasture where they herded their cows. She attended Richland Grade School and Richland High where she ran track and played on the basketball team, but graduated from Edison High in Spokane, Washington. Madeline's colorful history as an original resident of Richland along with photos of her can be found at the Reach Museum in Richland, WA. In her teens, she was proud to have been a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary Drill team, she loved to dance, and told stories of helping at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco and living with Dr. Spaulding and his wife to help care for their children after Dr. Spaulding surgically repaired her right hand when she was 16. This pivotal event in her life led her into the field of nursing where she began at the bottom and proudly rose to the positions of Practical (LPN) Nurse from 1955 -1970, a certified Operating Room Tech from 1970 – 1973, and an Office Lab Tech from 1973 – 1979. In 1945 when Madeline lived in Spokane, WA, she married Ward Overvald and worked at Swedish Hospital for four years. She worked in a chair factory in Hoquiam, WA for two years, lived in Tracy, California where she worked at Tracy Memorial Hospital for two years and then The Dalles, Oregon from 1955 where she worked at Mid-Columbia Hospital and Clinic for 22 years. Ward passed in 1960 and Madeline then met and married Robert Mee, becoming mother to his sons Brett, Alan, and Andrew. They moved to Lewiston, Idaho, where they lived together for nine years. Her stepson Brett loved Madeline very much and credited her for having a huge impact on the man he is today. He shared several wonderful memories of hunting and fishing trips where Madeline enjoyed being in camp, cooking for her boys, and keeping them in line. In 1986, Madeline moved to Kennewick, WA where she resided 20 years until marrying Bill in 2006. An avid golfer, Madeline loved getting out in the fresh air with her golfing companions and friends who jokingly referred to themselves as "The Golf Bags." She also greatly enjoyed golfing with her sisters Jo and Rose and Rose's husband Bob. Madeline told wonderful stories of her time cooking aboard fishing boats in Alaska and her love of singing for many years in St. Joseph's church choir in Kennewick, Washington. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Services to be held on Saturday July 30, 2016 at St. Joseph's Church in Kennewick, Washington. Rosary at 10:30 am and funeral Mass at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House.
