Lorena L. Britton passed away April 4, 2014 in Kennewick, Washington at the age of 95. Lorena was born in Roslyn, Washington on December 23, 1918. She was the youngest of six children born to Italian immigrants Ippolito and Louisa Bianchini Luisi. After graduating from Yakima Senior High School in 1936 Lorena attended Yakima Business College. She soon began a series of secretarial positions leading up to an Executive Secretary position at the Hanford Nuclear Facilities where she worked for over 30 years before retiring. Lorena married Raymond J. Britton on October 25, 1946 in Yakima, Washington and moved to Tri-Cities in 1957 where Raymond was a commerce building contractor. Raymond passed away in 1971. Lorena was an avid gardener and spent many hours outdoors working on her gardens. She was also accomplished at knitting and crocheting and shared her talents with family members. Lorena earned over 10,000 miles as a "mall walker" at Columbia Center Mall, where she earned her miles mostly by walking early in the morning on the outside of the mall where it was quiet and she could spend her time thinking and reflecting. Lorena enjoyed reading the newspapers and watching news stations on the television to keep up with current events. She enjoyed discussing the world's affairs with those who visited. Lorena was preceded in death by her husband Raymond J. Britton, parents Ippolito and Louisa Biancini Luisi, two sisters, Clara Luisi Deccio and Eva Luisi Snider, three brothers, George, Ray, and Eugene. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 7th, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Calvary Cemetery in Yakima, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
