Lindell Jean Burrough Smith

Lindell J Smith of Kennewick, WA. went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 20, 2026. Lindell was born in Warren, Arkansas and was the fourth child of Alfred Lee Burrough and Irie Trammell Burrough. One of six children, she was raised as the daughter of a hard-working share-cropper living in a company-owned home. Depression era situations led her father to come west looking for work where he served as a carpenter working on the Hanford Project during World War II. Lindell moved to Ellensburg in October in 1945 at the age of 12 where she attended Ridgeway Grade School for 6th grade; Morgan Jr High; and graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1952. Lindell continued her education at Central Washington College between 1952-1954, before meeting her future husband. Lindell’s closest friend (Martha Smith (Shreve)) brought her home to Kennewick in 1952 during spring break where she met her future husband, Frank, a tall strapping young US Navy sailor home on leave. After a long-distance courtship, they were married on June 26, 1954.

Lindell and Frank started their life together in Kennewick and relocated briefly to Seattle, Washington in 1955 for a job with Boeing Aircraft. After one year, they returned to the Tri-Cities where they have been permanent residents for over seventy years. Lindell and Frank have four children: Dennis, Lee, David and Dale. Lindell was an avid homemaker and enjoyed growing and arranging flowers-which she shared with friends; enjoyed gardening and reading; loved hosting missionaries; and was always willing and able to host events for friends and family in her home. She had a passion for baking cookies for grandkids and serving in her church. Lindell loved God, her husband and family very much and showed unconditional love in so many ways.

Lindell accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour at the age of 13. Led to the Lord by her Sunday School teacher, (Marion Campbell a retired missionary), she served the Lord throughout her life. Lindell was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church (now South Hills Church) since 1954. Her passion for service included teaching Sunday School and Bible study; served in the areas of: superintendent of the church nursery/Beginner Dept./Primary Dept./ Jr. High Dept., and loved to sing in the Church Choir. Lindell had a special talent for producing and displaying floral arrangements and led the Churches’ Flower Committee for over 30 years.

In 1967, Lindell returned to the workforce and was employed by Hanford Environmental Health Foundation (HEHF). Initially working within the Research Department of the Dr. Thomas Mancuso Study, she went on to become a Medical Records Librarian; Secretary for Occupational Medicine; and Secretary for the Occupational Nursing Department. She served within HEHF for 23 years and retired in 1989. Although retired, she maintained relationships with doctors, nurses and friends from the Hanford Project for the rest of her life. You could not go anywhere with her without stopping to say hello to someone she knew. In retirement, Lindell and Frank enjoyed traveling with friends; attending gospel quartet concerts; monthly dinners with their “dinner group”; and visiting shut-ins. social connectivity and sharing God’s joy was Lindell’s special super power as well as sharing encouragement to others.

Lindell leaves behind her husband of 72 years, Frank; four children, Dennis, Lee (Bruce), David (Jody), and Dale (LariKay); 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters Elwanda and Sue; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her father and mother; brothers James, Gerald, and Travis; daughter-in-law Suzi Smith.

Lindell, an ovarian cancer survivor, relied and rested in the goodness of God her entire life. Faced with many medical challenges in her later years, she relied upon God for strength, guidance, hope and comfort. Lindell is now with her heavenly father but wished to share where her hope came from. The family requests that you join us in celebrating the life of Lindell J Smith by drawing strength from the following passages that inspired her daily walk with God: Isaiah 40:31; John 14: 1-3; Psalm 91: 1,4, and 11; Psalms 121; Psalms 23; Deuteronomy 33:26-27; Isaiah 41: 10 &13; Isaih 42:16.

Finally, Lindel was a “prayer warrior.” She believed whole-heartedly that prayer changes things. If you had an issue in life that she knew about, she prayed for you. If you were facing difficulties, she prayed for you. Many people have received God’s grace because of the fervent prayers of Lindell.

A memorial service to honor the life of Lindell will be held at South Hills Church on August 08, 2026 at 1 P.M.
