Lewis Paul Wilburn, 60, passed away Thursday October 25, 2007 after battling diabetes for most of his life. Paul was born August 28, 1947 to Robert and Marie Wilburn in Wichita, Kansas. He moved to Bellevue, Washington in 1963 where he graduated from Sammamish High School in 1965. He graduated from Bellevue Community College with an Associate in General Studies and then attended Central Washington University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1972 and his Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1973. He lost his sight in 1979, shortly after the birth of his first daughter. Paul moved to Kennewick in 1983 to teach Special Education at Kennewick High School until kidney failure forced him into retirement in 1986. After receiving a kidney transplant, his focus and passion moved to pottery and sculpting. His work has been featured in the Tri-City herald and on display at Beaux?s Art, Allied Art, and Art on the Avenue in Wenatchee. Paul was an advocate for the blind and served on the board at Columbia Industries from 2000-2005. He also taught pottery classes at the Kennewick Senior Center where he will be missed by his students. Paul is survived by his two daughters Tawnee Wilburn and Kari Anderson, his two grandsons Taylor and Mahkai Anderson, his father Robert Wilburn, his brother Bob Wilburn, and his sister Marla Moe. Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 1st at 1:00 at the Cathedral of Joy in Richland. A reception featuring many of his art pieces will follow.
