Leslie Bernard Chapman was born November 7, 1952 to Bernard Roy and Mary Louise Chapman. He was one of the first babies to be delivered at the newly built Kennewick General Hospital. His home has always been in Kennewick. Les passed away in his home with his family by his side on November 29, 2018. After graduation from KHS in 1972 he joined B.R. Chapman and Sons Construction with his Dad and brother, Richard. That fall, Les married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Uhler. They had two beautiful girls, Michelle and Jennifer. After a divorce, in 1990 Les married Dee Lin Doescher, the love of his life and soulmate. This also included her two children Lori and Marty Meier…now a family of six. Les enjoyed life with his family. Many good memories were made boating, scuba diving, bowling, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, motor homing, snowmobiling and visiting their special place, Turkeytail cabin in the Blue Mountains above Dayton. He took on leadership roles as the eventual owner of his Dad's construction business, a District Director of Washington State Snowmobile Association and President of the Tollgate Trail Finders Snowmobile Club in Oregon including the honor of Snowmobilers of the Year at both club and state levels with his wife, Dee. Even when he lost the use of his left arm and had to let go of the family business, he mustered up and with the help of his constant supporter Dee, he created Turkeytail farms at his home on 10 acres in southeast Kennewick. Many area families had delicious turkey at Thanksgiving and/or Christmas from his farm for 13 years. He then took on the responsibilities of helping to raise two of his four grandchildren in their early years. This led to him becoming involved in the Cal Ripkin Jr. baseball program and an awesome relationship with his grandson, Chance. Life presented Les with many great moments and some hard bumps, but he always managed to enjoy life as best he could and he held onto his artistic talent of creating beautiful items out of wood. Les will be missed by many friends and family, especially his wife Dee; his children, Michelle Starnes and husband Shane, and Jennifer Oldham and husband Steve, Lori Gibson and Marty Meier; his grandchildren, Bailey, Chance and Abigail Oldham and Taylor Starnes; his parents Bernard and Mary Louise Chapman; his sisters, Marcella Morrow and husband Rod and Barbara Hays and husband David. His brother Richard preceded him in death 13 years ago. The family gives thanks for the many precious times Les has given to each of us throughout his 66 years of life. In these past months, we also thank Tri-Cities Cancer Center, Trios Hematology and Oncology and Chaplaincy Hospice Care for all the support and care given to helping Les through the finals times of his life. A Celebration of his Life will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Mueller's Chapel of the Falls (Life Tributes Cremation Center), 314 West First Ave in Kennewick.
