Leonard Carl Livezey passed away on January 26th in Kennewick, WA. Leonard was born on May 5, 1925 to James and Jennie Livezey of Grinnell, Iowa. He was the middle child of 7 siblings. G rowing up on a farm, Leonard loved to work in the shop. One of the first things he ever built when he was about 12 years old was a "Motor Scooter" made out of a Maytag engine on two steel wheels. It went about as fast as you could run! Leonard was drafted into World War II at 19 years of age in January of 1945. He served in the Philippines as an MP until December of 1946. He was awarded a Medal for the Liberation of the Philippine Islands. After WWII Leonard met the Love of his Life, Ruth Boyanovsky, when his sister invited her home with her from Nurses Training for the weekend. They were married a couple of years later on April 11, 1949. Leonard attended Watchmaking School and worked as a watchmaker for three years while Ruth worked as a nurse in New Hampton, Iowa. He found that there wasn't much money to be made in the business so went back to farming with his Father. In the true pioneering spirit, Leonard moved his family to the Columbia Basin in 1956 when the Bureau of Reclamation opened up lots with irrigation to veterans. His covered wagon was a 27 foot trailer filled with 4 young children between the ages of 3-6. Leonard had put his name in for several drawings before they were finally able to pick a piece of land in Block 16. They ferried over a bath house from White Bluffs to use as the basis of their new home that they built. Ruth worked at an R.N while Leonard built his lot into a productive farm, raising everything from sugar beets to asparagus and raising 5 children with his same strong work ethic. It wasn't his dream to be a farmer, but that is what seemed to be in his future. He not only worked his own farm but did custom work for other farmers, either cutting hay or threshing grain. He also fixed their watches, radios, and TVs, even dabbling in flying airplanes for a short time. He worked hard every day of his life. For entertainment they went to the dances in the old school building in Eltopia and always gathered with neighbors for the 4th of July Picnic. In his later years he enjoyed having dinner with Family and winning at Rummikub. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, rebuilding machinery, fixing golf carts, keeping his granddaughters cars running and playing golf with Ruth at their vacation home in Arizona. He was known as a shrewd negotiator and always got the best deal. When you saw that twinkle in his eye you knew something good was coming. He is deeply loved and missed by his family. Leonard is survived by his children, Sue Martin, Jean Moseley, Dan Livezey, Ed Livezey, Debbie Kulfan, 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren. His Brothers, Robert Livezey and Walter Livezey and his Sister Thelma Worden. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Ruth Boyanovsky Livezey and his sisters, Alice Morgan, Gertrude Higdon and Edith Overholser. Private Family Memorial will be held at a later Date.
