Leona Faye Anderson, 84, was born November 27, 1922 in Oaktown, Indiana. She died at Kennewick Life Care Center on January 24, 2007 following several illnesses in the past three months. In 1945, she and her husband J.C. ?Jimmie Phillips? moved out this area to work on the Manhattan project. ?Lee? as she was known to her many friends, was employed for close to 35 years in the dress department at JC Penney?s both at the old downtown location and then at the Columbia Center mall. Although Leona and J.C. had no children, she was very active and supportive of youth activities. She was Mother Advisor of Kennewick Rainbow girls for several years, always serving as a very fair and objective leader. She went on to serve as Chairman of the Grand Executive Board for the State. Lee was always supportive of the girls and adults with her creative ideas in crafts and programs. She was a member of Alma Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and had just received her 50 year certificate and pin. She served in several offices and it was through Star that she served the Rainbow Girls. Lee was a Charter and Life Member of Kennewick Court, Order of Amaranth, which was organized in Aril of 1957. She held many local offices, including being Royal Matron, plus Grand Standard Bearer for Grand Court in 1964. Her Masonic connections were very important to her. After Jimmie?s death, she married Harry Anderson on Aril 17, 1971. Thereafter, she raised her nephew, Dennis Henry, the son of her twin sister Winona. Lee has lived at Life Care Center for several years, having moved there following several serious illnesses or accidents. She loved the care and companionship and participated in most of the social activities. First, she was secretary of the social club, and now was serving as president of the Red Hat Society which was on of their activities at the center. The pets that were housed or visited there always found their haven with Leona, and she loved that ?extracurricular? activity. Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, her twin sister and several nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by her nephew Dennis Henry, his wife Angie and their family of Los Angeles along with nephew Roy Henry of Illinois. The family would like to thank the Kennewick Life Care Center and Dr. Cole for the extremely loving care they all gave to this great lady.
