Obituary

Leo Albert Lawrence

June 21, 1938 – October 5, 2026

Kennewick, Washington – Leo Albert Lawrence, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, scientist, and golfer, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026.

Born June 21, 1938, to Teresa and Albert Lawrence in Oakland, California. Leo lived his life with determination, curiosity, faith, and a deep commitment to family. He was someone who took what life offered, worked hard to make the most of every opportunity, and overcame challenges to build a life centered on the people he loved.

Leo lived in Eureka, CA in his teen years where his hard work and curiosity led him to Humboldt State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in physics. He went on to pursue a master’s degree in physics at the University of Denver and was recruited to Hanford Nuclear Site where he began a long career, focusing much of his professional work on nuclear waste cleanup.

Through all of those adventures, challenges, and accomplishments, Leo had by his side the love of his life, Terry (Gulliksen) Lawrence. Together they built a marriage of nearly 62 years and a family that was always at the center of Leo’s life.

And then there was golf. Leo played regularly at Tri-Cities Country Club well into his eighties, carefully keeping his scores updated to make sure his handicap was accurately recorded.

Leo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Terry; his parents, Teresa and Albert; and his sister, Sandra “Sandy” Collins of Oakland, California. He is survived by his children, John (Tracey), Craig, Mark, and Lisa (Brian); his grandchildren, Jorgen, Jenna, Ana, Hope, Brooke, Tristan, Eva, and Clara; and his great-grandchildren, James and Adeline.

Memorial services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kennewick, WA on November 5, 2026 – Mass at 2:00 p.m. (optional rosary at 1:00 p.m.) In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy.
