Leila Barbara Larsen Zunker Long-time Kennewick resident, Leila Zunker, 82, whose loving nature and devotion to her six sons and their families made her the heart and soul of the Zunker family, passed away at Hospice on April 19, 2008, from cancer. She was born in Kennewick on September 25, 1925. Leila attended school in Kennewick and graduated in 1943. She was a very active den mother in Cub Scouts and volunteered her help whenever needed for 4-H projects while her boys were growing up. She also volunteered for many years at the Benton County Fair as the Superintendent of the poultry exhibit. Whenever any of her sons were involved in arm-wrestling matches, she would be their most enthusiastic fan. Leila loved to travel, and her most exciting trip was to France to visit a cousin. Leila worked in the fabric department at Payless Drug for 20 years, and after retirement, she was active in the Kennewick Senior Citizen's Center, enjoying their fellowship and attending their Wednesday afternoon Bible study. She was an avid reader, exhibited her poetry and ceramics at the county fair, and crocheted many afghans that she gave away as treasured gifts to her family members.
