Our mother Laura entered peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with daughter by her side on November 16, 2018 in Kennewick. Laura was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last August and fought a brave fight for over a year before starting Hospice care in the end of this October. Most people had no idea she had cancer as she kept herself encouraged and enjoyed life to the fullest. Laura was born August 21, 1931 in Conrad Montana to Laurent and Louisa Wipperman. After graduating from Conrad High School in 1949, she went to Northern Montana College in Havre to complete a medical secretary degree and from there worked as a medical secretary/assistant in Great Falls. In January 1957 she accepted a secretarial position with G.E. Corp. in Richland. She met her husband John Duncan an engineer with GE and they were married in September 1957. Their first home was on Fisher Street in Kennewick where Laura became a full time homemaker and one year later a new mother. Another daughter was born while living in Kennewick. In July 1962 they bought a farm next to the Yakima River in Benton City where they farmed Concord Grapes and asparagus and another daughter was born a couple years later to complete their family. That is where they raised their girls and enjoyed the rest of their lives until Johns passing in 1999. The main focus of her life was her children and she spent untold amount of time leading and volunteering in all the activities her daughters were a part of while growing up. She really was a mother to many children besides her own and the family enjoyed a full house of kids! Laura was a woman that wore many hats. She was a savvy business woman and enjoyed over 32 years of successful Avon business after daughters grew up. She enjoyed golfing, traveling and was an expert seamstress that sewed many garments & outfits for daughters and grandsons. Making new friends was easy for her as she always saw the best in everyone and really enjoyed people and making lifelong friends. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, daughter Heather Duncan, brothers Carl and Mahlon Wipperman, sister Gloria Staples and nephews Mark Staples and Les Wipperman. She is survived by daughters Tami (Mike) Amberg and Shawna Duncan, grandsons Christopher and Caleb Amberg and brother Al Wipperman as well as her dear nieces, nephew & their families. Special thanks to Heartlinks Hospice Care and the staff at Parkview Estates for their excellent support. A Celebration of life service will be at the Benton City United Methodist Church on November 24th at 1:00 pm. Graveside service will be held in Prosser on November 26th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to Heathers Pantry in Benton City or Heartlinks Hospice in memory of Laura Duncan.
