Obituary

August 3, 1944 - July 13, 2023

Larry Olsen, a man of strength, resilience, and individuality, passed away on July 13th, 2023, due to natural causes at the age of 78. Born on August 3, 1944, in Bainbridge, Maryland, Larry's life journey took him from Walla Walla, Washington, to Portland, Oregon, and eventually settled in the Tri-Cities, Washington, in 1974.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ruth Olsen, and sister Kathy Lenfesty. He is survived by his loving daughters, Stacy Johnston and Erika Zink, step-son Casey Hall, and nephews Robert and Christopher Lenfesty.

Larry embraced a life that was uniquely his own and took pride in his diverse experiences.

He held various jobs over the years, but his true calling was found in the Richland School District. He started out as a janitor at Sacajawea Elementary and retired as the Building Foreman at Jefferson Elementary. Larry's dedication to the schools and the students was evident in his work, and he created a lasting impact on all those he encountered.

Proudly affiliated with the Brothers of the Wheel Nomads, Larry cherished camaraderie and community involvement. As an army veteran, he actively supported Amvets, honoring and assisting fellow veterans. He found purpose in contributing to causes that honored and assisted those who had bravely served their country.

A quiet farewell will be held at Mueller's Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick, Washington on Saturday, August 5th, at 11:00 am. This intimate gathering will allow those who shared a connection with Larry to say their final goodbyes and celebrate the life he lived.

In memory of Larry Olsen, the family kindly requests considering a donation to a charity of your choice. Your contribution to local charities such as Amvets, Operation Thank You, and Meals on Wheels would honor his memory and continue his legacy of caring for others.

As we remember Larry, let us reflect on the unique spirit he brought into the world and the impact he had on those around him. May his memory continue to inspire compassion and service in the hearts of others.
