Kathryn Elmera Cobain passed away peacefully on May 21, 2011 at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Howard Cobain, and grandson, Stephen Fausti. Kathryn was born in Waukon, Washington, the oldest child of Harry and Naomi DeChenne. She graduated from Edwall High School as the valedictorian of her class. While attending high school, Kathryn met, and later married, Harry Howard Cobain. Kathryn had three children, Patricia Guyll Mrs. Gary, Harry "Mike" Cobain and Stephanie, and Gwendolyn Fausti Mrs. Stephen. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She spent her time raising her children in Wilbur, Washington, Pendleton, Oregon, and Walla Walla, Washington. Kathryn was very community minded while living in Walla Walla. Some of her activities were Migrant Worker Board, Chairperson of Washington Research Committee and Mother's March for Polio. She later became an ordained Lay Minister of the Methodist Church. After her husband Harry died in 1969, Kathryn moved to a small acreage near Deep Lake, Washington where her family, especially her grandchildren, looked forward to spending time with her. They enjoyed the good cooking, lots of travel excursions, and wonderful evenings by the campfire roasting marshmallows. Kathryn was a fine seamstress, creating beautiful quilts and making and selling lovely doll clothes. She was always looking out for someone - whether it be her mother, sister, or one of her friends. Her unselfish ways set an example for all to follow. Kathryn spent her last years in Portland, Oregon and Pasco, Washington, near her daughters, Gwendolyn and Patricia. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 9th, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., at Central United Protestant Church, 1124 Stevens Drive, Richland, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Central United Protestant Church.
