Kathy Stone Obituary Rev 4
September 16, 1944 – March 24, 2024
Kathleen Harris Stone, 79, of Kennewick, WA, entered the presence of Jesus on March 24, 2024. She was born September 16, 1944, to Robert (Bob) and Joan (Perkins) Harris in Helena, MT. She spent her younger years in La Grande, OR with her parents and younger sister, Margie. The family later lived in Washington, D.C. and Portland, OR. Kathy graduated from Wilson High School in Portland and then received a degree in English from the University of Oregon in 1966.
Kathy married Richard (Dick) Herbert Stone on August 20, 1966, in the Vermont Hills Methodist Church, Portland, Oregon. They first lived in Olympia, Washington, where Kathy taught High School English for two years. When Dick and Kathy moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1969, Kathy accepted a position as the Executive Secretary in the regional offices of Jack-in-the-Box, where she worked for nearly three years until they began a family. She then worked as a full-time wife, Mom and Homemaker.
In 1985 Kathy accepted a position as a fifth-grade teacher at Trinity Christian Academy, where she loved and taught hundreds of fifth grade students. In 1990, Dick and Kathy moved to Kennewick, WA.
In 1991 Kathy took a secretarial position with Bethel Church in Richland, using her computer skills, servant's heart, and God-given talents to create a variety of books and resources in that ministry. Kathy had a gift to write in calligraphy, served in church women's ministries, and, together with Dick, led several different small groups including singles ministries - her great desire was to honor Jesus. Throughout her years, Kathy's sweet, gentle, and caring love blessed many people. She retired in 2006 but still enjoyed her favorite job of being "Gramma K." Also, in 2006, Kathy and Dick traveled to Birmingham, England, for the summer, to interview Muslims, to learn about Islamic beliefs and to understand how to better communicate with that culture.
In 2015 she moved to Callaway Gardens Memory Care where she was gently cared for by numerous staff for whom her family remains so grateful.
Loved ones include her husband Dick, children Anne (spouse: Arturo) Guerrero of Quincy, WA; John (Jessica) Stone of North Platte, NE; David (Hannah) Stone of Richland, WA; sister Marguerite Harris Fitzpatrick of Milwaukie, OR. Other surviving family include Coral Stone Edwards, Scott and Coni Engle, Eric and Vicki Smith, Mike and Julie Kelly, Geoff and Alia Odom. Grandchildren include Andy, Alec, and Adam Guerrero; Will, Clay, Joe and Elizabeth Stone; and Zachary, Declan, and Imani Stone. Along with Jesus, her parents and grandsons Alec and Adam welcomed Kathy into Heaven.
Kathy, whose favorite Psalm was number 121, will be remembered and celebrated Monday, June 3, starting at 1:21 p.m., at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1007 Wright Ave, Richland, WA 99354. Dale Shaver will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Bethel Church's fund to aid those in need.
