Kathleen F. Hand, 80, passed away August 22, 2017 in Pasco, Washington. She was born August 11, 1937 in Pierre, South Dakota to Celeste and Percy Hand of Midland, South Dakota. Kathleen was better known as Kathi. She was a retired teacher. Kathi was dedicated and taught 40 years at Highlands Middle School in Kennewick, Washington. Her passion was her students. She taught English, Music, History and Drama, as well as taking on extra duties such as track coach, yearbook editor and counselor. To many students, Kathi was more than an educator. She offered them friendship, compassion and guidance. She truly enriched the lives of those she taught. Kathi loved music. She had a natural talent for music and could play any instrument she touched. Kathi adored all children. Through the years she became like family to many and helped rear them through their growing years. There wasn't a game that she didn't enjoy playing. Her favorites trivia and cards. She belonged to several card clubs. Kathi had many friends and truly enjoyed socializing. After retiring, daily lunches out with friends became her favorite activity. She was preceded in death by her parents Celeste and Percy Hand, her sister Mary Perryman, and brother Tommy Hand. Kathi is survived by her brother David and wife Laura, their five sons and their families, her sister-in-law Lani, her three sons and their families, niece and three nephews born to her sister Mary and their families, also her "adopted" niece Shannon Mallow and special friend Gus Perez. There will be a celebration of Kathi's life held on Thursday, August 31, 2017, 5:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Tri-City Cancer Center or Junior Achievement.
