Katherine (Kay) Anne Zoda passed away December 24, 2017 after a 15-month battle with cancer. Kay was born in July 24, 1944 in Bremerton, WA to Robert (Bob) and Lucile Knudson. Her family relocated to Yakima in her early teens and eventually landed in the Tri-Cities. It is there that she met Don Zoda on a blind date and married him three weeks later in July of 1964. A love affair that spanned through his passing in August of 2012. Kay and Don built a loving family which included three daughters and a successful family business, Randolph Sheet Metal (later named Randolph Construction Services, Inc). Their lives were consumed by the business, daughters and giving back to the community. Kay was a very private person, painfully shy at times, but if you had the opportunity to get to know her, you were blessed to see her silly side. Kay's huge heart found her supporting many people over the years, through kind words, love, financial support, even taking in troubled teens. Kay's capacity for compassion at times seemed boundless, even as her health declined. Few people realized the depth of Kay's strength and fortitude. When Kay was 35, Kay and Don were involved in a near fatal car accident caused by a drunk driver. The injuries Kay sustained resulted in a two-month hospitalization, learning to walk again, multiple joint replacements and other surgeries throughout her lifetime. Kay was never pain free after the accident and further endured debilitating rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. She battled physical challenges her entire life from the cancer that was not diagnosed until it was too late. That said, she had the will to live her life to the fullest, complete with skydiving for her 70th birthday. She taught her daughters to see life's obstacles as chances to overcome and grow stronger. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bobby Knudson. She is survived by sister Virginia Robbins; brothers Mike Knudson and Chris Knudson; daughters Toni Ducat (Wes), Khris Beyer (John), and Lori Wenner (Jeff). Seven grandchildren Cerell Butler, Troy Teal, Micah Butler, Reily Thorington, Grey Judy, Trey Judy, Kamryn Cook, two great grandchildren Xoe Heiny and Peyton Butler and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children. Per Kay's request, no funeral will be held. In typical Kay fashion, in lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to your favorite local charity or Chaplaincy Health Care, 1480 Fowler Street, Richland WA 99352. The family would like to extend our deep gratitude for the loving care Kay received during her last six months from Home Health Care Solutions and Chaplaincy Health Care, which allowed her to remain in her home through to her last breath.
