Obituary

Karin Melissa Blomberg age 43, was born November 22, 1980 in Yakima, WA and passed away on February 14, 2024 in Kennewick WA.

She shared her entire life with her parents David and Mary Blomberg, living throughout the state of Washington until the family moved to their current home in Kennewick in 1999. She graduated from Kamiakin High School in 2002. Karin loved helping others and was a Catholic Daughter of the Americas.

Karin was diagnosed in her childhood with Aspartylglycosaminuria (also known as AGU), a rare progressive-degenerative disease which caused her developmental delays and many health challenges throughout her life. As her condition progressed, she became very frail. In late January, Karin had a fall at home from which she could not recover. She passed peacefully at Hospice House in Kennewick surrounded by her parents and her best friends Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and Minnie Mouse.

She loved to visit her Grandparent's at their apple ranch in Tieton, WA and camp with them at their travel trailer overlooking Rimrock Lake. Her brother and sister swam, so she did too, welcomed in several local and school teams. Many particularly fond memories were formed with the Special Olympics Tri-Cities Tidal Waves.

Karin participated in many activities with the ARC of the Tri-Cities including Partner and Pals, dances and a Disneyland trip.

She enjoyed traveling with the family (staying in hotels, and sometimes in tents) to swim meets and other destinations throughout the west. She spent many successive Thanksgivings at the beach in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Karin is survived by her parents Dave and Mary, sister Laura, brother Adam (Jennifer), grandmother Dolores Blomberg, as well as several aunts, uncles and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her uncles Bruce and William, and her grandparents David "Pete", George, and Frances Blomberg.

Karin's funeral will be Friday, February 23, 2024 at Parish of the Holy Spirit in Kennewick. Rosary is at 10:30 followed by Mass of Christian burial and a luncheon. All are welcome to attend. Burial will be at Sunset Gardens at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 24th.

Her family is thankful for the many condolences received and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be donated the help fund the cure for AGU. You can find out more information and donate at www.raretrait.com.
