Karen Lynn (Kohn) Norton, age 71, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. Karen fought a valiant battle with ALS for four years. She showed absolute strength and grace during this time. She always had a smile and kept her wonderful sense of humor to the very end. She was able to stay in the comfort of home thanks to the tireless and loving efforts of her husband Jim. His love and tender care were an honor to witness. He was selfless and loving, strong and compassionate. Karen Lynn was born January 31, 1948 in Yakima Washington to Jim and Norma (Hancock) McWain. She was the eldest of four children and the only girl. She married Roy Kohn December 7, 1967 and lived in San Diego where Roy was stationed for a few years. When Roy left the Navy they moved back to Yakima, where three of their four children were born. They moved to Kennewick Washington in 1977 and she lived in that home until her passing. On July 20th, 2002 Karen married Jim Norton. Jim and Karen had a special love and devotion. They enjoyed dancing and traveling and met so many wonderful friends through this love. Karen and Jim danced many performances and touched many people through teaching dance. Karen found a love for photography and her wonderful pictures are precious and cherished. She was a board member on the Tri-Cities Digital Photography Club and enjoyed many trips to photograph the scenes of Washington, Oregon, Nevada and Hawaii. She was an auxiliary member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 2006 and loved dancing there. With great love and care she helped to raise several families of children through her daycare that she ran out of her home. Karen's Kids was amazing and helped parents work by knowing that their children were being cared for by Nana Karen. Karen had many friends but none were dearer to her than Ellen and Dennis Love. They were faithful, kind, devoted and always there to help Karen and Jim no matter the time. Their love and support were key to helping Jim fulfill Karen's wish of being able to stay in her home. Ellen and Karen met when they were just 19 years old. Ellen is the one who introduced Karen to her brother Roy. They became sister-in-laws and ended as best friends. That is a friendship that withstood the test of time. Karen's greatest joy was her family. In addition to her husband Jim, she leaves behind her children and grandchildren. Her son Brad Kohn and his wife Amy, their daughter Jennifer Wakeman and her husband Tyler. Daughter Tami Rogers and her husband Luke, their two daughters Taylor and Ryanne. Son Jeremy Kohn. Son Andy Kohn and his wife Alicia, their children, Kellie, Amanda and Josh. When she met Jim she also gained more amazing family. She gained three daughters, Ileen Farokhpour, her husband Kombiz, and their sons Treyton, and Bryson. Jamie Brewer and her husband Randy and their sons Garen and Justin. Kimberly Geiger her husband Bryce, their children Ashley, Eli and Brody. Son Zachary Norton his girlfriend Michelle and her daughter Reagan. A Celebration of Karen's life will be held from 3:00-5:00pm on Saturday March 16th 2019. It will be held at Eagles Lodge No. 2241, 2829 W. Sylvester St. Pasco, Washington.
