June Andres, beloved Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Aunt and Friend, passed away February 16, 2007 in her Pasco home. June was born Rosemond June Hickman to Basil and Mary McBroom Hickman in Pendleton, Oregon on June 26, 1929. June grew up in Garfield, Washington with older sister, Jene Hickman Wheeler-Louden. Her father owned the town grocery and she has shared many wonderful memories of life in a small town during the war with her friends and family. The friendships she had with those she grew up with remained important to her throughout her life. June met the love of her life, Charles Andres from Potlatch, Idaho, on a blind date and they were married in Coeur d? Alene, Idaho on June 16, 1950. Newlyweds in Farmington, Washington, Charles worked as a lumberjack and butcher and, in 1959, they moved to Pendleton, Oregon. In 1961, Columbia Electric Wholesale Supply hired Charles as a salesman and they permanently relocated to Pasco, Washington. A model housewife of the 1950?s and 60?s, June was busy as the mother of three young children and stepmother to a teenage daughter. She was a Super Mom before the term was ever coined: beautiful in curled light ash blond hair, cotton housedresses and high heels, her house was the one family and friends wanted to come to. Not much money, but her house was always full of food, music, dancing, and card games. She hosted garage bands, supported Boy Scout outings, attended Brownie and PTA meetings, and kept the Kool Aid flowing during hours of cheerleading practice. During this time, she also volunteered at Hillcrest Nursing Home, doing the elderly residents? hair and leading them in crafts, and was a member of a women?s bowling team at Cloverleaf Lanes in Pasco. During the 1970?s and 80?s, June spread her Women?s Liberation wings and got out into the working world. She worked as a receptionist for Amfac Electric Supply and was a clerk for Columbia Corner Grocery. She also worked for Sherman?s Baby News and the Kangaroo?s Pouch: she loved being around the new babies and helping expectant parents. She was well liked and had a way of making all of her customers feel special. During the 1990?s and until her death, June spent her time in her home with her growing family. She was the adoring audience for her grandchildren?s fashion shows, swimming routines, and baking sessions. She hosted family birthday parties and holiday dinners. She spent quiet mornings doing her crossword puzzles and listening to music. Afternoons were spent watching her favorite soaps and game shows. She became an avid Mariners fan and was in front of the television any time they were playing. June shared her wonderful life with us all and she will be remembered for many accomplishments, but her ability to be a kind and giving friend will never be forgotten. Her home was always open to all and everyone who knew June loved her: she could make anything better with just a kind word, a love pat, or a smile. We have lost the light of our lives, but she will live forever in our hearts. It is with sadness that we say goodbye to June, but we are comforted to know her struggle has ended and that she is once again in the arms of her precious husband, Charles. June is survived by her son-in-law LeRoy Hinzmann, grandson Bill Nungester and great grand-daughter Angie Nungester, grandson Steven Hinzmann, and grand-daughter Teresa Hinzmann; son Don Andres, grandson Brian and wife Wendy Andres and great grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Andres, grandson David and wife Jessica Andres, and grandson Kurtis Charles KC Andres; son Tony and daughter-in-law Anabel Andres and grand-daughter Salina Andres; daughter Mary Andres and son-in-law Rodney Cherry, and grand-daughters Heather and Amy Cherry; niece Cheryl Wheeler and her husband Rick Knox; and nephew Jon Louden. June was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepdaughter, Vickie Lea Andres Hinzmann; and sister and brother-in-law, Jene Hickman ? Wheeler and William Louden. June and her family would like to extend their thanks to her special friends at In Home Medical; Dr. Thomas Tan and his staff; her RN Cyndi McKay; Bonnie, Joan, Dawn, and Sarah from Tri-Cities Chaplaincy and Hospice; and Katy Byington and Janet Rowlette for their patient and loving care. In lieu of flowers, June and her family request that donations be sent in her name to either the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy and Hospice or a charity of your choice. Mueller?s Greenlee Funeral Home will arrange cremation and, to honor June?s wishes, no funeral services will be held. However, June?s family will celebrate her life in her home on Saturday, March 17th and welcome all of her family and friends to celebrate with them from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
