With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joyce May (83) on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. She was truly a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend to all.
Joyce was born on May 30,1941 in Vina, Alabama to John and Carolyn (Stone) Newton. She grew up in Alabama, Oklahoma/Texas, and California. After graduating from Gridley High School in 1959, she married Kenneth McGuffey whom she dated throughout high school. They were married for 28 years. Together they had two children, Kenneth McGuffey Jr. and Pamela (McGuffey) Sakurada. Her greatest desire in life was to be a mother. She was not only a mother to her children, she was a mother to all who knew her.
She was blessed to have met the love of her life, Stephen May, and married him in 1986. They have been married for over 37 years making their home in Pasco, Washington. Together they lived in Kennewick and Vancouver, Washington, as well as a brief time in Ogden, Utah. They served a total of five missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Their missions included Stake Missionaries, Welfare Services, Church Educational Systems and the Cove Fort Historic Site.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Stephen May, daughter Pamela (Michael) Sakurada, grandchildren Lance (Madi) Sakurada, Matthew (Chelsie) Sakurada, Collin McGuffey, Chad Sakurada, Zach Sakurada, Bryan Sakurada, Jenna (Scott) McGuffey, and Alyssa (Tyler) Moulton, and five beautiful great grandchildren; her siblings Ralph (Kay) Newton, Maxine (Don) Pryde, Pattinell (Bob) Heape, Dewight (Vera) Newton, Elaine (Bob) Townsend, Inez Shipp, and Wade (Nancy) Newton. Joyce was predeceased by her son, Kenneth McGuffey Jr. and her siblings Eugene Newton, Eunice (Newton) Wilfong, Edward Newton, Stone Newton, and Tracy Newton.
Services for Joyce will be at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick, Washington on June 14, 2024. Viewing will be from 12:00 - 1:00 pm, with a Celebration of Joyce's Life starting at 1:30 pm.
