Joyce J. Quam Eby, age 76, passed away with family by her side on June 16, 2012. Joyce was born November 19, 1935 in Plentywood, Montana, and spent her childhood in northeast Montana. She would often remember the simple joys and mischief growing up on the farm with her sisters and cousins. After graduating high school in Westby, Montana, Joyce moved to Helena, then Seattle, Washington, where she met her first husband while he was in the Coast Guard. Following their marriage in Florida, they moved a few times and eventually made their home in Sacramento, California. Joyce was kept very busy raising their five children and volunteering as the room mom each year for school activities. She always said that being a mom was the greatest joy and purpose of her life. She was involved in many activities with her friends such as Mahjong group, bridge, and enjoyed holiday gatherings with family and friends. She also took time to learn to play the guitar and would play and sing her favorite country songs. She enjoyed oil painting and batik crafts. Joyce and her family moved to Kennewick, Washington, in 1974. She worked retail and clerical jobs for a few years before retiring. She liked to garden until the pain of RSD prevented her from doing so, but she continued to enjoy playing poker and a challenging game of Scrabble with family and friends. She looked forward to baseball season each year to watch her favorite team, the Seattle Mariners. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Herbert Eby, her parents Leonard & Pauline Quam and sister Ruby Borquez. Joyce is survived by her children: Russell Kathy Westphal, Cindy Dave Thompson, Debbie Bob McClary, Kathleen David Graham, and Robert Cheri' Westphal; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Tom Westphal, Mark Westphal, Dan Thompson, Rachael Thompson, Courtney McClary, Heather McClary, William Graham, Isabelle Graham, Talisa Westphal, Cameron Westphal, and Stephanie Jake Raines, Samantha Raines and Evan Raines. She is also survived by her sister Elaine Earl Strand and many nieces and nephews. Joyce's love and laughter will be greatly missed but not forgotten. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Hospice nurses and staff and the caregivers who provide support and comfort to the elderly and their families. Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral home will handle arrangements. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2012.
