Joshua Phillip
Abken
Mar 28, 1994 — Nov 5, 2025
Joshua Phillip Abken March 28, 1994 ~ November 5, 2025
Joshua Phillip Abken was born on March 28, 1994 in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Richard and Dana Abken. Tragically, he lost both his parents by the age of five. In 1999, after the passing of his father, Joshua moved to Kennewick, Washington, where he was adopted by his aunt Shannon Abken and Uncle Lewis. Surrounded by a devoted and caring family, Joshua grew up knowing he was deeply loved.
From a young age, Joshua displayed extraordinary artistic talent. Whether sketching from life or drawing from imagination, his work was vivid and expressive. He later channeled his creativity into tattoo artistry, practicing first on himself before creating beautiful, meaningful tattoos for others. His art was a reflection of his soul: bold, thoughtful, and unique.
Joshua had a deep love for fishing, especially catch and release. Though he didn't enjoy eating fish, he often brought home a stringer for his mom. Many cherished memories were made fishing with his cousin Andy at Bateman Island, where laughter and serious life discussions were shared.
In recent years, Joshua found joy helping his brother at the Boat Races, a tradition he looked forward to and thoroughly enjoyed. But nothing bought him greater happiness than the birth of his daughter, Samantha Villareal. To Joshua, Sammy was the most perfect, wonderful little girl in the world, and his love for her was boundless.
Joshua is survived by his Mother/Aunt Shannon Abken; Father/Uncle Lewis Robinson (Dawn); Daughter Samantha Villareal, Brother Michael Abken (Natalie), Sister Kiley Ruiz (Brandon), Grandparents Richard and Heeson Abken, Judy Robinson, and Beverly Burton, Niece Alyssa Derryberry, Nephews Benjamen, Garrison Roesch, Daxton Ruiz; Uncle Mark Tortorelli & Aunt Sue, Aunt Sheila Meredith & Uncle Mike, Aunt Sherry De Rosier, Aunt Liz & Uncle Edgar DeVany, Cousins Alexis Meredith, Seth Meredith, Elizabeth DeRosier, Sofia DeRosier, Andrew Sellars (Beatrice), Sarah Sellers, Jeffery Sellers, Buddy Burton, and Caitlyn Judge.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard Abken and Dana Burton-Abken, Step Father Gary Rowland, Grandparents Georgia and Gregory Stephens, Grandfather Robert Robinson, Grandfather Walter Burton and Uncle William Bell, Great parents George Tortorelli, Betty Bell, Ruth Burton.
Joshua's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him. His creativity, kindness, and devotion to family leaves a legacy that will never be forgotten.
"I will miss you terribly and I love you so, forever and always. Love, Momma."
