Joseph Fred Sargent, Jr. -- August 4,1925 to December 27, 2021 Joe was born and raised in Pasco, Washington and lived all of his 96 years in the Tri-Cities. His parents, Joseph Fred Sargent, Sr. and Essie Bates Sargent came to Pasco from farming in the Blue Mountains near Walla Walla. Being loyal to one place -- the Tri-Cities and the Walla Walla Valley -- and to the people there was an essential part of Joe's character. All of his life, he kept a close and loving eye on his family and friends and supported them in any way he had the means to do. Joe married Billie Lee Young on January 8, 1949, after serving in World War II. They had two children -- Karen Ann (Hill) and Randall Fred Sargent. Joe worked for the railroad in Pasco until his retirement, and he did have a good long retirement! He was the treasurer of his union, an avid pinochle player, loved bowling, and took long road trips with his family. He once drove from Pasco to Washington, D.C. and back, never tiring of the driving and the scenery. After 49 years of marriage, Billie Lee passed away in 1998. On September 21, 2001, Joe married Billie Fern Koonz. They met each other when they were students at Columbia Basin College, learning how to use email to keep in touch with their out-of-state children. Joe and Billie enjoyed 20 years of marriage. They formed a loving nucleus for their families, and even traveled to Thailand, in addition to seeing a lot of the United States on RV road trips. Joe is survived by his wife, Billye Sargent; his stepdaughter, Mona Champion; his stepson, Jerry Koonz and his wife, Carole; his daughter, Karen Hill; his son, Randy Sargent; his grandson, Pete Sargent and his wife, Sheryl; his grandson, Derek Hill and his wife, Sara; and 17-month old great-grandson, Arthur Felix Hill.
