Joseph Daniel “Dan” Pogue, 77, passed away in Kennewick, Washington, on September 17, 2026. Born in Richland, he grew up in Benton City and lived most of his adult life in Kennewick. He attended Kiona-Benton schools, graduated from Columbia Basin College in auto mechanics, and served in the Army.

Dan was an accomplished artist and pottery maker, skilled in every stage, from the wheel to the kiln and the beautiful finishes. He was also a remarkable collage painter. Dan read and studied the Bible deeply, loved the Lord with all his heart, and enjoyed sharing his faith and Scripture with others. He made a point of staying in touch with people, often calling to check on them and ask about their faith.

Dan loved music in many forms, from rock and roll to Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan, and especially loved hymns. Music was often playing when friends visited; they would listen together, read the Bible, and Dan would share a few dance moves. He also enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, cooking, and studying the planets and constellations. Quiet, steady, and observant, Dan gave people a quick once-over when they entered a room, much like his mother. His rare compliments were heartfelt and without embellishment.

Dan is survived by his brothers, Al, Bill, Bob, and Jim; his sisters, Katie and Mary; and longtime family friend Betty Bell. He was preceded in death by his father, William Russell Pogue; his mother, Hazel Sanford Pogue; his brother Russ Pogue; and his sister Martha Pogue.

The family is grateful to Dan’s caregivers—Raquel, Lupe, Yere, Ashley, Marta, and Eli—for the above-and-beyond care they provided. The family is certain Dan felt cared for and valued.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. October 1, 2026, at Evergreen Cemetery in Benton City, Washington.
