Obituary

Born Johannah Magdalene Heintzman on November 2, 1914 to Joseph and Magdalene Heintzman in Onaka, South Dakota. Mom with her family moved to Yakima, Washington in 1934. There she met and married Frank Kautzman in 1935. To this union there were 4 children; Arline, Gary, Ron and Loree. Mom worked in various canneries in and around Yakima for several years but her greatest love was doing waitress work and owning her own restaurant. She loved people and loved the interactions of meeting new customers. She and Daddy were the proud owners of Joanne's Café on 3rd Avenue for many years. Mom retired in 1980 to look after Daddy. Some of Mom's best memories were of her and Daddy going to the Eagles club and dancing every weekend. They loved to polka and waltz. They continued this tradition until Daddy's failing health forced them to be spectators and not participants. Mom lived in Yakima until 2006 when failing health made it necessary for her to move to the Tri-Cities to be closer to her daughter Arline and her family. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for more than 50 years. She leaves behind her daughters; Arline husband Alan McNichols of Pasco, Loree husband Butch Mensinger of Fremont, CA; son Ronald wife Joan of Sammamish, WA; daughter-in-law Lee Kautzman of Corvallis, MT; sisters Theresa Delaney of Yakima, Pauline husband Merle Huggins of Huntington Beach, CA and Rose Steed of San Diego, CA. She has 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Kautzman; son Gary; brothers Andy, Joe and John Heintzman; sisters Claudia Malsom and Tillie Kohls; and her parents. A very special thank you to Peggy Mager who became a very close and special friend to Mom. You helped fill some of the loneliness of her days. Thank you also to Judy, Hospice and the caregivers at From the Heart, especially Sherry. Viewing will be held Sunday, February 15th, 2009, 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home located at 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 16th, 2009, 11:00am, at St. Paul's Cathedral located at 15 S. 12th Avenue in Yakima.
