Joan Anna Jenkins of Kennewick, WA passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 29th, 2025. Joan (Joanna) was born to Roy A. Morton and Dollie E. Morton in Bonners Ferry, ID on March 6th, 1942. Following Joanna's birth by 5 minutes, her beloved identical twin sister Judy May (Julianna) was born. Joanna was the eldest of 9 children born to the Morton family, including Judy, Roy, Wayne, Dixie, Jean Marie, Art, Paul, and Cherry.

Joanna and her family moved to Everett, WA in about 1945, eventually moving to Snohomish WA where she lived throughout her childhood. She and Julianna both responded to an alter call and gave their hearts to the Lord. They were baptized at the age of 16 while attending Snohomish Christian Church.

Joanna graduated from Snohomish High School in 1962. Having met Richard L. Skaugset at a church camp on Orcas Island in 1961, the two were married on July 14th, 1962. Joanna gave birth to son Kerry in 1963 in Georgia, and to daughter Kimberly in 1964 in Germany (compliments of the US Air Force). Daughter Kathy was born in Kennewick, WA in 1969.

All throughout her adult life, she ministered to those in need in sacrificial ways. Her home was always filled with more children than just her own three. Whether through the foster system, like Cindy Wampler, or friends of her children, like Christopher Likens. These children were as much a part of her family as her own children were. In her eyes, they were all her children.

In the early 1980's, Joanna pursued a nursing career, earning her RN degree from CBC in 1985. Nursing was a career that she enjoyed to the fullest. While working in the Acute Neurology department at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, WA, she met her 2nd husband, Bruce Jenkins – a relationship that began with humor! Bruce was a Physical Therapist at Overlake. Bruce and Joanna married in 1990 and were together until Bruce's death in January 2024.

Joanna was most proud as the grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Among her very favorite memories were family gatherings around the holidays. She was a very accomplished seamstress making wedding dresses, baby layettes, school clothes for her children, stuffed toys, draperies and much more – and she was self-taught! She also excelled in oil painting, ceramics, and many other arts and crafts.

Preceding her in death was her husband Bruce, her parents Roy and Dollie Morton, 7 siblings including Roy, Wayne, Dixie, Jean Marie, Paul, and Art. Joanna is rejoicing with them all in Eternity.

Joanna is survived by her twin sister Judy (Julianna), her youngest sister Cherry, her son Kerry (Lisa), daughter Kimberly (Rick), daughter Kathy (Pat), stepsons Chad (Carol) and Todd (Cory), stepdaughter Shannon (Jesse), grandchildren Misti, Breanne, Jonah, Cooper, Teagan, Marne', Tyler, Amber, Hannah, Sarah, Drake, Bleyden, Kaleb, Alex, and Danae. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

Joanna was a member of Kennewick Baptist Church.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 11:30 AM at Mueller's Funeral Home in Kennewick, WA. All are welcome to join us.
