Joanna M. Anderson, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 9, 2011 in Kennewick. Joanna Lou Marriott was born on the family farm on April 7, 1930 in Urbana, Illinois to Sarah Susie L.F. Burnett and Oscar Marion Marriott. She graduated from Urbana H.S. and worked as a dental assistant. At 21, in May 1951, she enlisted in the Navy and had formal dental assistant schooling at Great Lakes. She was transferred to Pearl Harbor for two years and then to Pier 91 in Seattle where she was honorably discharged in May 1955. While in the Navy she met Arthur Carl Anderson, Jr. and they were married in Glennsferry, Idaho on June 25, 1955. Joanna returned to live with her Mom in Urbana, Illinois where their first son, Arthur ?Biff?, was born while Art was in Guam during the Korean Conflict. They returned to live in Utah and both attended BYU. While there, Todd and Kitturah were born. Then the whole family moved to American Samoa as Art got an opportunity to teach at Mapusaga?s high school. Tracey was born on the island. They lived there from 1962 till 1968 after which they moved to Portland, Oregon. She lived in the Portland, Gresham and Troutdale areas until her move to Kennewick, Washington in 2005. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joanna is survived by her children, Biff Kim and Kitturah of Kennewick, Washington, Oscar Todd of Tacoma, Washington, Tracey Doana of Gresham, Oregon; grandchildren, Kelly Eric Hill, Matt Renee Anderson, Daniel Anderson, Caitlin Al Rogers, Ian Anderson of Kennewick, Washington, Sean Sandy Anderson of Othello, Washington, Eric Julianne Anderson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Conerty and Suzanne James Clabaugh of Urbana, Illinois; as well as numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur C. Anderson, Jr., her brother Frank Elizabeth Marriott and sister Gayle Jay Sayban. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 14th, 2011, 12:00 p.m., with viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m., at the LDS Pittsburgh building at 724 N. Pittsburgh Street, Kennewick, Washington. Graveside dedication will be at Lincoln Memorial in Portland, Oregon on January 15th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. A special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Legacy Homes for the love and care given to our Mother.
