Obituary

Jeanette Jarrett Barta of Pasco, Washington, went to live with her Heavenly Father on August 7, 2018. She was born on February 20, 1933, to Ira Poynor and Lasera (Peggy) Blackwell in Gorman, Texas. Jeanette met Loris Jarrett in San Diego, where he was stationed during World War II. After Loris was discharged from the Navy, the couple moved to Minnesota. While in Minnesota, a son, Jimmy Jarrett, and a daughter, Connie Jarrett, were born. In 1956, the Jarrett's name was drawn for land acquired through the Columbia Basin Project. The young family moved to an undeveloped 134-acre farm unit, in Block 19, near Mesa, Washington. The family continued to grow adding Laurie (Eaton), Kerrie (Garrett), and Tamie (Hunter). The entire family worked together to build the farm from the ground up. It was during these years that she taught her children to love the Lord, love one another, and to work hard. She led by example. Not only did Jeanette work on the farm, she taught Sunday school at the Messiah Lutheran Church. She worked as a cashier at the Basin City Grocery Store, followed by a ten-year career as a bus driver. When she hung up her bus keys, she picked up her teaching hat working with AmeriCorps for two years. After a short retirement together, Loris Jarrett died in 2007. In 2013, Jeanette married Don Barta. They enjoyed dining out, traveling, dancing, and eating Don's homemade meals while watching the departing airplanes from their home in Pasco. Jeanette is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amanda Miller. She is survived by her brother, Roger Kurfurst, her five children, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at From the Heart where Jeanette lived the last year of her life. The love, kindness, and care our mother and grandmother received at Chaplaincy Hospice House the last two weeks of her life was extraordinary. Viewing is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on August 11, 2018, at Mueller's Funeral Home in Pasco. Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Kennewick. Donations may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran School.
