Janice was born on July 14, 1937, in Colville, WA. She was the second oldest daughter and the fifth born of ten children to William Grittner and Beula (Kifer) Grittner. She grew up with her siblings on the family property outside of Colville at the base of Old Dominion Mountain. This homestead property remains in the family to this day.

Janice enjoyed a rural upbringing on the family farm, and although removed from Colville for many years, she never lost touch with her roots. She attended school in the area and graduated from Colville High School in 1955.

As a young woman, Janice moved to Kennewick, WA where she met the love of her life, Monte Cloyd, while working in a dental office. They became husband and wife in a simple ceremony on September 27th, 1958, in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. They had two sons; the eldest Forrest, whom they welcomed in 1960, and then Daren shortly after in 1961. They enjoyed 51 years together until Monte's passing in 2009.

Early in their marriage, they purchased a modest home in the Kennewick Highlands area of the Tri-Cities, in a quiet neighborhood looking north to the Columbia River. Here, they raised their family, created many memories, and remained in this home throughout their entire marriage. The family enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing. During those outings, Janice and Monte passed down to their sons their love for the outdoors and appreciation of nature.

Janice worked for many years at Kennewick General Hospital in various roles until her retirement. She enjoyed quiet pursuits such as reading, knitting, quilting, gardening and watching the local wildlife. She thrived in the company and care of her beloved animals. And despite her elder son's urging, she never achieved a traffic ticket.

Following the passing of her husband, she returned to her roots and moved back to the family homestead in 2009. Content in the embrace of family and in her childhood setting, she passed away quietly at home on September 3rd, 2024 at the age of 87.

Janice was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by her sons, Forrest and Daren and daughter-in-law, Brenda; grandsons Casey and Bryan; sisters Kathy Hallam, Rita Grittner, Kay Kristick and Lyola Grittner, and brother Kent Grittner. Also, numerous nieces and nephews, and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Monte, her parents Bill and Beula, and brothers Stan, Gordon, Ken and Art Grittner.

Janice, affectionately known as Janie to her family, was a kind, thoughtful and generous woman. She will be missed and remembered always.
