Obituary

Janet was born on June 19, 1937 in Colfax, WA to Merna and Bill Kinzer. She spent most of her childhood in Pullman, Washington. On graduating from Pullman High School she enrolled in Huntington College, Huntington, IN and graduated 4 years later with a degree in business management. She worked for the Indiana Michigan Electric Company for a few years before moving to Pasco, WA to live near her mother. There she found work at the Franklin PUD, was active in the Retarded Children's Association, the Charismatic Prayer Fellowship, and was a member of the first Lutheran Church of Pasco. On April 30, 1977, Janet married John Hughlett, a widower with five children, who at the time was leasing a dry land wheat farm near Lind, WA. In 1982, with the youngest children having finished school, Janet and John moved to Pasco to be near her mother, where they purchased a lot and began building their new home. While John was starting a roofing business and working on the house, Janet began working for the Columbia Chain Belt Company and then as bookkeeper for Faith Assembly Christian Center. All the while, she kept books for the roofing business. In 1995, Janet, with the approval and encouragement of her pastor at Faith Assembly, introduced a prayer ministry for local law enforcement agencies called Adopt-A-Cop. She continued to lead this ministry until she was no longer able to for health reasons. In June of 2016 Janet was admitted to a long-term care facility where she spent the remaining days of her life on earth. She died on December 28, 2017, was preceded in death by her parents, and survived by numerous cousins and five step children; Bill Hughlett of Seattle, Washington, Catherine Cleary of Denver, Colorado, Carol Curry of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Noel Harris of Tucson, Arizona and Fletcher Harris of Moses Lake, Washington. A memorial service will be scheduled for a future date at Faith Assembly Christian Center in Pasco.
