Jim Walters passed into our Lord's loving hands on December 26, 2013. He was born on June 8, 1931 in Arjay, Kentucky, to William (Bill) Rosswell Walters and Mary Gambrel Walters Kitchen. He served in the U.S. Army for 6 years, with time spent in Korea. Jim met Claudine Downs in Richland, Washington. They were married on August 6, 1957, and raised 5 sons. After his discharge from the Army, Jim worked as a truck driver, custodian for Columbia Center Mall and the Bon Marche; and security guard at the Boise Cascade paper mill, among other positions. He was a life-long, standing member with the VFW, proudly serving on the color guard and folding the American flag. He volunteered with American Citizens Encouraging Support (ACES), enthusiastically welcoming the new generation of Veterans home. Indeed, he loved sharing war stories with other Veterans and anyone else who listened. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Raymond and Don. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Claudine; sons and their wives Rex (Debbie), Danny, Vernon (Jill), Robert (Heidi) and John (Donna); grandchildren and spouses David (Lois), Tawnya (Dustin), Veda, Thomas. Christopher, Bobby, Julie, Rebeca, Tristen; and 6 great-grandchildren; as well as sister Kay Avey and brother Jasper Dale Kitchen; 3 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Tom Regan, who greatly assisted with Jim's care during the last months of his life. Jim loved his family very much. We loved him back, and will miss him. A celebration of life will be on January 2, 2014, 2pm, at the Richland VFW post, 1369 George Washington Way. Memorial contributions may be made to ACES, Po Box 1253, Richland, WA 99352; or to any local VFW post.
