James C. Reinkens, age 79, a long-time resident of Pasco, Washington, passed away on August 16, 2007, at his home surrounded by his loving family. James was born February 1, 1928, to Bernard and Ellen Reinkens. His German immigrant father and English schoolteacher mother maintained a 140-acre family dairy farm, Reinkens Dairy, while living in the Moore Mansion. As an only child, Jim delivered bottled milk to the Pasco community. James attended Pasco High School until his family moved to Walla Walla in 1943. He graduated from Walla Walla High School where he held the state hurdles record. James entered the United States Marine Corps in 1946. He served as infantry, aircraft mechanic, and crew chief. He was released as sergeant in 1948. He graduated from Washington State College receiving a degree in animal sciences with Phi Kappa Phi National Scholastic Honors. The United States Marine Corps recalled James during the Korean Conflict where he helped develop new 'secret' Marine technology, helicopters. He was honorably discharged as Captain. Semper Fidelis. James' working life included developing and operating a Jersey dairy, expanding to a 151-acre alfalfa farm in Burbank. He was also was employed by Boise Cascade, Rockwell Hanford, and finished his career as a math and science instructor at Columbia Basin College. James served the community through the Lions Club, Columbia Mosquito Control and Columbia School District 400, as board member and chairman. He delighted in being an aircraft pilot, fishing, renovating and selling houses, raising birds, puzzles, being an avid reader, and exploring the beauty of America with his adventurous wife, Golda in their 'Toyota' motor home. James' greatest accomplishment was his family. He married Golda Mae Moore, his confidante, and driving force, in 1949. James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Golda and five children: daughter, Nicki son-in-law, Marvin, son James wife, Tami, daughter, Teri, son Kirk daughter-in-law, Michelle, and son, John; grandchildren, Nick, Kyle, Aaron, Elizabeth, Chelsey, Austin, Chad and Danielle and great-granddaughter, Rylee. James is preceded in death by parents, Bernard and Ellen Reinkens, beloved daughter, Charm Reinkens-Gaulitz, and special grandson, Jamie Reinkens.
