James "Jim" Laughlin, 91, died Monday October 10, 2022. He was born to Frank and Olive Laughlin October 17, 1930 in Jamestown North Dakota. He spent his early years in North Dakota. Jim and all eight of his siblings eventually made their way to Washington State. He enlisted in the army and went off to the Korean War. After coming home in early 1953 he settled in Richland Washington where he met Barbara "Mert" McMurtrie. They were married on New Year's Eve in 1953. They spent sixty wonderful years together until Mert's passing in 2014.

They had three children. During the beginning of their marriage they moved around from McCall, Grangeville, Prosser and Mabton. Once settled in Mabton they opened J&M Food City utilizing Jim's many years of experience as a butcher. The store was a family affair where they instilled their great work ethic in the family. They owned and operated the store until they retired in 1991. After retirement they split their time between Packwood Washington and Yuma Arizona where he loved wood carving, playing golf and pool and hosting friends and family. In 2011 they moved to Kennewick where they first met to be closer to family.

After Mert's passing, Jim met Alice Loderhose and they were married in 2015. They loved to spend time traveling and shared many good memories doing so. Alice supported, cared for and held his hand to the very end.

Jim is survived by his wife of seven years, Alice, four children; Michael Laughlin, Debbie Laughlin-Nall, Tina Burke and Allen Crosland; son-in-law William Nall and 4 grandchildren; Heidi Laughlin, Amy Laughlin, Lauren Burke and Shelli Daugherty and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife Mert, parents Frank and Olive and all eight of his siblings.

Graveside Service will be held Monday, October 17, 2022, at Dessert Lawn Memorial Park at 11am.
