January 2, 1938-August 15, 2018 Jacque Sonderman, age 80, died August 15, 2018 in Kennewick, Washington, after complications from an eight year battle with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. While cancer was a part of her life she will be remembered and loved for the lives she touched as a: daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, historian, writer, and Christian. Jacque was born January 2, 1938 in Pasco, Washington, the third child of Lloyd and Florence Nielsen who had arrived in Kennewick from the Sandhills of Nebraska the previous year. She grew up on a small farm in the West Highlands of Kennewick, graduating from Kennewick High School in 1956 and from Central Washington State College in 1961. In the summer of 1957, she met C.R. (Dick) Sonderman and they were married on December 28, 1957. They were overjoyed with the birth of their daughters, Cami and Darci. Jacque found her calling when she began her teaching career in 1961. She taught in both Kennewick and Pasco School Districts, retiring in 1992. A second career, which she enjoyed as much as teaching, began in 1994 when she became administrator of the Franklin County Historical Museum in Pasco, retiring in 2000. Not one to really retire, she returned to work there 2002-2006. She loved her family, building memories with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, instilling her love of exploring and learning. From Sunday dinners, trips to the beach and hosting 4th of July celebrations at their cabin outside of Dayton, WA, Jacque had a knack for making people feel welcome and loved. Jacque was active in her community and believed in giving back. She was recognized as Kennewick Woman of the year in 1988. She was an active member of Kennewick First United Methodist Church, Soroptimist International of Pasco-Kennewick and P.E.O. Over the years she enjoyed her involvement with The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and the Palus Museum in Dayton. She is survived by daughters Cami (Laron) Eakins Spokane, and Darci (Dave) Mitcham, Kennewick; Grandchildren Tyler Hanson, Las Vegas, Jared Hanson, Richland, Jacob Hanson, Seattle, Grant Hanson, Spokane, Brandon Mitcham, Phoenix,, and Krystal (Kyle), Corbaley, Vallejo, CA, and great grandchildren Michael and Lily Corbaley; sisters Jane Foreman, Richland, Mary Joy, Wenatchee, Jonna (Rich) Crow, Mercer Island, brothers Robert (Eve) Nielsen, West Linn, OR, Thomas (Pat) Nielsen, Port Gamble, WA; and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Dick Sonderman, and granddaughter, Sarah Hanson. There are many to thank for the love, prayers and support during Jacque's illness. A special thanks to the staff at Serenity Lodge-in particular Chris, Elizabeth and Judy for their amazing care in her final months. A memorial service will be held at Kennewick First United Methodist Church, 2 S. Dayton St. Kennewick, WA at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. In lieu of flowers Memorial Gifts may be made to Kennewick First United Methodist Church, East Benton County Historical Museum, Franklin County Historical Society, Chaplaincy Hospice Care, or the charity of your choice. Jacque left an imprint on this world, we love her and will miss her. Above all she was a woman who loved God; she wanted to be a testimony to his love, and she was: 1 John 4:7-21.
