Jack Lester, 81, went home to the Lord on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Ruan's Garden in Kennewick. He was born December 24, 1932 to Willard and Edna Lester in Thermopolis, Wyoming. He grew up in the small town of Hyattville, Wyoming. When Jack was 16, his mother died and the Lester family moved to Riverton, Wyoming, where Jack graduated from High School in 1951. He worked while attending the University of Wyoming and graduated with his BS in Agriculture Education in 1955. Jack was drafted into the Army and traveled to Germany where he met his first wife LaVerne. Jack decided teaching was not for him and tried his hand at selling life insurance. He was employed by New York Life and after a short time he went into Management. He started as an Assistant Manager in Cheyenne, which took him to Casper. In 1969 he became a General Manager in Walla Walla, Washington and in Kennewick. In 1983, New York Life brought him back to Wyoming as a Regional Manager. He retired in 1986 from management and went back to selling insurance. Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed exploring, hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles, quads, & snowmobiles on his ranch in the Big Horn Mountains. He spent a lifetime of summers at his cabin building memories with his children and grandchildren. Jack taught us to work hard and play harder. Jack is survived by his sister, Jill White (Jerry) of Riverton, WY; step-sisters, Patti, Kay & Eileen; three children: Jack Lester, Jr. (Cory) of Kennewick, WA; Barbara Shellenberger (Steve) of Casper, WY; Kathie Harris (Dave) of Douglas, WY. He had six grandchildren: Jim Shellenberger, Sydney Lester, Tim Harris, Dillon Shellenberger, Seth Harris, and Samantha Lester; and two very special nieces, Connie Gatenbein & Karen Dick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna & Willard, nephew Ronnie Chopping and niece Sherry Harris, step-sister Jo King. The family would like to give a special thank you to the ladies at Ruan's Garden for the tender loving care they gave to Jack. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014, 2pm at The Living Room Church, 1409 S. Garfield St., Kennewick, WA.
