After a long term illness, Jack Douglas Hughes of Pasco passed away at Kennewick General Hospital with family members by his side. He was born on May 2, 1930 in Newport, WA to Robert and Annice Hughes. The family moved to St. Maries, ID. in 1941 before moving to Finley in 1943. Jack continued to live in Finley until 2002 when he moved to Pasco. Jack attended Hover High School and worked for Virgil Hysel driving truck during the pea harvest, picking potatoes, and cutting spears of asparagus. In 1948, he left for the Army and was stationed at Ft. Ord, CA. before transferring to Davis Air Force Base in Adak, AK with Company A of the 807th Engineering Aviation Battalion. He worked as a power shovel operator at Adak and the Aleutian Islands. Later he played basketball for the Army at McChord Field and helped build a dry land sled to test harness and ejection seats at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He was honorably discharged as Corporal in March 1952. Over the next nine years, Jack worked for Peter Kiewit at Erwin Construction, as a mechanic at Walker Motors, and drove asphalt spreaders for Vail. In 1961, he went to work for Chevron Chemical and retired as Maintenance Foreman in 1990. In 1957, Jack married Ann T. Strunk in Coeur d'Alene, ID. They made their home in Finley, WA. and raised three children Gloria, Dennis, and Allen. In 1992 Ann passed away. In 1994, Jack married Inez Jodszuweit in Kennewick, WA. They also made their home in Finley, WA. before moving to Pasco, WA. in 2002. Jack loved being outdoors; he was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved to travel, camp, snowmobile, and had a great passion for flying and boating. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by those that loved him and knew him. Jack is survived by his wife Inez; sister Dorothy DeWayne Ash; daughter Gloria Kenneth Clary; son Allen Nancy Hughes; daughter-in-law Jackie Taylor; stepchildren Glenda Kent Cloud, Randy Michelle Kausche, Kathy Ron Berg; grandchildren Jeannette Clary, James Brenda Clary, Tracy George Giese, Tammee Lib deVeyra, Kurt Hughes, Kandace Hughes, Leslie Taylor, Darren 'Beau'Rachel Taylor, Stephanie Jim Jordan, Carrie Matt Cohen, Jeff Carolyn Hughes; step-grandchildren Brandon Berg, Ryan Cloud, Shawna Jesse Rench; niece Beverly Mike Bingham; nephew Merle Ash; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Ann T. Hughes, son Dennis Taylor, and 13 of his beloved furry, four-legged friends. A Celebration of Life service, entombment, and reception will be held at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union, Kennewick, WA. on Monday, June 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. Viewing will be held at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 5 - 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Hospice or Ann T.
