Ivy Glades Hendler, known affectionately as "Pinkie" for her bright red hair and vibrant personality, ascended to the heavens on October 25, 2015. She was a country girl. Born in a house in Connell, Washington and raised on a farm, Pinkie, spent most of her life in Pasco, Washington. She was born to Bob and Marie Samson on Flag Day June 14, 1924. Flags were always displayed on her birthday, and while most thought it was in observance of the holiday, Pinkie and her friends and family knew the real reason for such celebration. Pinkie is preceded in death by Ed Hendler, whom she married February 5, 1945, and were together 56 years until he passed in 2001. They had three sons, to which she was a devoted and caring mother. At the time of their high school graduations, she joined the work force and held various positions at the Hallmark shop, Eagle Trucking and Lamb Weston. Passing from life prior were her sister Elizabeth Phillips and her brother Robert Samson. She is survived by her three sons: Jay Hendler (Christine), Jeff Hendler (Amanda) and Joel Hendler plus her special daughter Linda Atkins (Jim). She is additionally survived by five grandchildren: Jordan Hendler-Dorn (Barry), Jensen Hendler (Cortney), Molly Leaf (Trevor), Coral Hendler and Kianna Anema; also, five great grandchildren: Jayden, Jayce, Ian, Parks and March. She is additionally survived by a niece Christine Anderson and her daughter Noelle Anderson (Shawn) and a nephew Terry Phillips (Darlene). Pinkie was blessed to have had her niece, Christine Anderson, as a close friend and aid through her later years. They enjoyed many treasured moments in each other's company and Christine supported her through the most difficult of tasks and times. Her close friends, Laura Satter and Bill Allen, were also very special to her and cherished. Pinkie was a socialite who deeply enjoyed the company of her friends. Oftentimes, she could be found enjoying coffee, conversation and occasionally dinner with a group of them or individuals. You know who you are and she felt truly blessed in your company. She was a kind, soft hearted Mother whose prize possession was her family and friends. She never missed a birthday or holiday and voted in every election. She always planted flowers in the spring, made sure the bird houses were ready for new occupants and always kept her home neat and clean with pictures of her family placed everywhere throughout the house…and without pause, every morning, would complete the NY Times crossword puzzle among others. A little known tidbit that will enlighten all: Because very few people knew the real name of Pinkie Hendler, it should be noted that the real estate development in West Pasco along the banks of the Columbia River was named Ivy Glades for a specific reason. May her memory last forever. Dear God, we are returning to you one of your angels… Good bye and farewell Dear Pinkie. You are loved. In lieu of a memorial service, those who would like to honor her life can join family and friends for a hot mug of remembrance and celebration at Andy's on November 10 at 10 am.
