On January 3, 2018, Inie said, "I've had a wonderful life", and in her typical, humble fashion, she completed her earthbound journey and joined the love of her life, Pep, in heaven. Inie Lowe Pepiot was born in Creston, Tennessee to Wilda and Link Lowe. She grew up at "Lowe's Camp" in the holly-bottoms forest of Tennessee. Following graduation from high school, Inie moved to Spokane, WA to live with her dad and step-mom, Edie. Edie was pivotal in guiding her into her nursing career. Inie graduated from Whitworth-Deaconess nursing program with a Registered Nursing degree. She was destined to care for others at an early age, and this passion lasted a lifetime. During her college years a "blind date" was arranged. When Inie stepped off the bus in Palouse, WA, there stood a handsome young man from WSC (Go Cougs!) waiting for her. That date lasted over 65 years. Inie Lowe married Duane "Pep" Pepiot on November 26, 1952. They lived in Pullman, WA until moving to Durham, North Carolina, to complete Pep's degree at Duke University in Physical Therapy. Inie told and retold the story of her working the graveyard shift at Duke University Hospital, driving through the woods of North Carolina at night, then arriving home in the AM, only to turn the truck keys over to Pep, whom left for school in the morning. Inie's life was full with a husband, three daughters, a nursing career and devotion to community. She and Pep rarely missed their children's, five grands and eight great grands activities. As well, Inie's passion for learning never diminished. She routinely participated in classes at CBC, cultural events, bible study, local plays and Broadway productions. And let's not forget the "Travel Log" series and the hours of the slightly annoying slide projector clicking! Determined to keep the artistic fires burning, Inie signed up for tole painting, floral design, needlepoint, quilting and bow-making (yes, there IS such a thing!). There was never a class that didn't interest her. A highlight of each year was the "Bean Soup Project" for church, which spanned over 30 years. Pep and Inie's love and devotion of the project perfected an 11 ½ bean soup recipe, fancy packaging and sample/selling at the Holly Daze bazaar, raising over $70,000 for the church. (By the way, the ½ bean is the split pea!) Other community service activities included Newcomers Club, KGH Auxiliary, writing for the Tri City Herald, Chancel Choir, Benton County Parks Commissioner, KGH Board Commissioner and campaign fundraiser, Tri City Cancer Guild, Columbians Drum and Bugle Corps traveling nurse, and countless fundraisers. Inie was honored as 1984 "Kennewick Woman of the Year" and most recently, Kennewick 1st United Methodist Church "Woman of the Decade". Priest Lake, Idaho was destined to be Inie and Pep's retirement paradise, beginning with annual vacations in 1954 at Grandview Resort, graduating to the "Merrick Cabin" for many years, and then purchasing their own cabin and slice of heaven in 1984. Everyone was welcome at the Pepiot Cabin. Pep passed away in 2013, leaving a huge void in Inie's life. After four years of idle adjustment without her second half, we are all comforted to know that Inie and Pep are reunited. Carrying on her legacy are daughters Rene' Norman (Bob), Che'rie Pepiot (Diane), Nicole Morrison (Steve), grands Katie Suitonu (Roland), Jodie Norman, Jordan Morrison (Tana), Peyton Morrison and Jalen Morrison. Great grands Maddox, Capri, Jewels, Jaylee, M.J., Emery, Harper and Nash. Children of the heart Judy and Jim Demand, and special thanks to Tami and Willie McIntyre. Inie's journey was amazing, and this world is truly a better place because of her. Heaven rejoices. Services will be held Saturday, February 3rd at 5:00 pm at Kennewick 1st United Methodist Church. Pep and Inie's "Bean Soup" will be served afterwards in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kennewick 1st United Methodist Church or Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House.
