Herbert Edward Eby at the age of 80, entered into rest on August 15, 2011, due to natural causes. He was born and lived his early life in the area surrounding Livingston, Montana. At a young age, Herb began working in the field of heavy equipment within the developing areas of Montana, Idaho and Washington. Throughout his career, Herb worked with many heavy equipment companies in the Tri Cities. In the later years he owned and operated Eby's Backhoe Service. After taking up permanent residency here in the Tri Cities, Herb enjoyed returning to Montana for hunting trips, and to Ilwaco, Washington, for his annual salmon fishing trip with Barney Blankenship. A recent special trip for Herb was a vacation with Starla and Nils to Vicki and Larry's home in Baja, Mexico. Herb was a member of the Merchant Marines serving his country during the Korean War, a lifelong member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Herb was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Myrtle, his sister Violet Morrow and son Daniel Eby who served in Vietnam. Herb is survived by his wife Joyce, of sixteen years; his three daughters SueRusty McLen, Vicki Larry Boals and Starla Nils Halverson, his five step-children, Russ Kathy Westphal, Cindy Dave Thompson, Debbie Bob McClary, Kathleen David Graham, Robert Cheri Westphal, and 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Betty Adams, George Eby, and numerous nieces and nephews; and John Hooks a good friend of many years. Herb's final place of rest will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick Washington. He was loved by many and he will be missed.
