Henry Gilbert Mattox Henry Gilbert Mattox was born August 20, 1927 in Rural Aurora, MO to Otliffe/Lou Mattox. He was the fourth of nine children. He struck out on his own at the age of 14 as a laborer. He went on to marry the love of his life, Betty Haskin June 16, 1945, Henry later served in the Army (1945-1947). In 1954 Henry/Betty came to the Columbia Basin from La Grande, OR to farm and were some of the original homesteaders that opened up the farm lands north of Pasco as part of the Columbia Basin Project. He was one of the first in Block 15 to get a crop from the sandy soil. No one ever walked away from a conversation with Henry about the impression that they had met a man who had a true love for hunting, fishing and adventure and, most importantly, a knack for telling a good story. Henry is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty; 3 children- Mark/Lori Mattox, Scott/Mary Mattox, Cle Ella/Joe Sapp. Surviving siblings include Arlene Dunajeski, Lillian Rapp, Melburn & S.G. Mattox. Grandchildren include: Jason (Carly), Eric (Kathleen), James (Shayne), Crane (deceased but not forgotten), Chance/Desirae/Sean/Anthony/Mahaley/Alicia. There are also 7 wonderful great grandchildren to carry on his legacy of faith, honesty and hard work.
