Helen Marie Chism, our sweet mother, Mam-Ma, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at the age of 74, on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Mom was born in Springfield, Arkansas on January 7, 1937 to Cleo and Harry Huddleston and was one of 9 children. She met and married James Chism in 1954 and shortly thereafter started the large family that she desired, 7 children. Upon Jim's passing, she chose to remain single and raise her children in Tieton, Washington; forever awaiting the day she would reunite with the love of her life and her Heavenly Father. She later moved to Kennewick where she has resided for the last 22 years. Her children and grandchildren were her world. She was the light of their lives and brought joy to them all. She had a gentle, kind spirit and lived her life as a selfless, generous person. She gave from the heart without expecting anything in return. She was a simple woman that was content with whatever life brought her. She was very honest and taught her children that honesty and integrity were worth more than wealth or riches. Mom cherished every hour she spent playing rummy, yahtzee and laughing with her grandchildren. Mam-Ma took great pride in knowing she had a huge part in raising them. She watched countless movies on her VCR and loved to read. She had a way of making everyone feel special and important. She loved her cat, Lou, who gave her unconditional love and was a constant companion. Mam-Ma was tiny in stature but had a great strength about her. Her door was always open and her outpouring of generosity will go unmatched. Her family was her life and that is why it was no surprise when we learned her headstone was inscribed with "Love is Family". She will be dearly missed but her legacy will live on in our hearts. We love you, Mam-Ma, and will await the day when we will be reunited with you. She is survived by her sister Mabel West; brothers Russell Cooper, Bobby Cooper; daughters Madeline Ermey, Jimmie Mastel Mike, Lisa Roberts Steve and Robin Brannan Brad; sons Lee Chism Susan, Bobby Lynn Chism and Randy Chism Jane; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services in honor of Helen's life will be held Friday, October 7, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick. Viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m.
