Obituary

Harold N. Thompson, beloved father and prominent real estate developer, died Sunday, January 1st, 2017. He was 89. Harold was born July 17, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Martha and Gilbert Thompson. He was the fifth child of six. His family moved to Prosser, WA in 1936. Here he completed his education graduating from Prosser high in 1946 where he was a star baseball player. Shortly after, he enlisted in the army and is a veteran of the Korean war. Upon his return, he took up farming and at 28 years old had a reputation as a pioneer in reclaiming waste land through sprinkler irrigation. Harold moved to Kennewick, WA in 1958 where he continued to farm and pursue his passion for real estate development. In 1967 he married Arlene Smith, the mother of his two children, Jill and Ryan. He opened his first real estate office in the early 70s, Thompson and Lampson Real Estate, and brought Windermere Real Estate to the Tri-City area in the early 90s. Throughout his career, Harold was respected and admired for his work as a developer and is most well-known for developing Canyon Lakes Golf Course. This was his crowning achievement and part of his legacy in shaping his community. Throughout Harold's life he enjoyed golf, salmon fishing, goose hunting and boating on the Columbia River. He had a love of the ocean and warm weather. Ryan inherited his dad's enthusiasm for salmon fishing and goose hunting. Over the years, father and son spent many hours in fishing boats and goose pits developing a lasting bond. Harold never shied away from a challenge and often sought them out. In August 1985, with daughter Jill in tow, he summited Mt Rainier at the age of 59. This was one of his proudest moments and fondest memories. He is survived by his daughter Jill Jeppesen (Michael) of Salt Lake City, UT, his son Ryan (Bobbi) of Kennewick, WA and his sister Jean Mickelson of Laguna Woods, CA. We, his family, wish to extend our gratitude to The Chaplaincy Hospice House for the kindness and care they showed our dad in his final days.
