Obituary

Hannah Laverne Hollinquest Brookins was born in Pasco, Washington on July 24, 1961 to Robert and Mittie Winn Harris Hollinquest. She was the fifth of six children. After her mother's death in 1967, Hannah and her baby sister Felecia lived with relatives and family friends in Pasco, which included living with Sister Bernice Hawkins and family. Mrs. Beulah Green also was instrumental in helping to guide Hannah and her sisters. Hannah and Felecia also lived with family in Cheyenne, Wyoming and New Orleans, Louisiana before returning to Pasco.

Hannah deeply loved children. She devoted her energy and countless hours to caring and nurturing her four children: Shavonne, Sam, Monya, and Ashone. Hannah met and fell in love with Danny D.K. Brookins, a God-fearing man, who later became her devoted husband and surrogate father to her children. After raising her children, for 16 years Hannah cared for other children in the Pasco School district as she worked at the Rowena Chess Elementary School and in other schools. Even while working for the school district, to supplement her family's income, Hannah provided loving and caring childcare services to more children at the Kid's World Child Care in Pasco. She worked at both positions until she took ill in 2010.

Hannah deftly balanced the demands of working two jobs with her duties as a caring mother and grandmother, a loving sister, a beloved friend, and a faithful wife. She was also a great cook and she loved to dress.

Hannah was a woman of great faith. She loved singing and was sought after to sing at weddings. She also sang in her church choir at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Pasco, Washington. She regularly contributed to a variety of local and global charitable causes, especially to help starving children in the world. She remained resolute in her faith throughout all of the health challenges she faced. She defied the odds of an illness that many succumbed to after a brief battle. After fighting a long and valiant fight. Hannah was called to her eternal home on Saturday October 14, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. (PST). Hannah would not want us to cry for her today … her work on this earth was done and she was ready to see her God!

Hannah was preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Gary, her sisters Linda Williams and Felecia Hollinquest, her parents Robert and Mittie Hollinquest, and her grandparents. Her death has left a void in the hearts and lives of those she leaves behind: her devoted and faithful husband Danny D. K. Brookins; her loving children Monya and Samuel (Becca) Townsend, Shavonne Thompson (Vincent), Ashone (Andrea) Hollinquest, and Audrey Brookins-(Justin) Alford; her 13 Grandchildren Chyala Townsend, Raymond Townsend, Samuel Townsend III, Micah Hollinquest, Andreanna Hollinquest, Donte Townsend, Tianna Townsend, Little Hannah Thompson, Lizea Townsend, Hope Townsend, Heavenly Townsend, Daveena Castillo, Traveah Alford, Tyrin Alford, and Travonte Alford; her sole surviving sister Dorothy A. Bush of Jones, Oklahoma; her father-in-law Rev. Clarence L. Brookins, mother-in-law Mrs. Mary F. Brookins; sisters-in-law Patricia A. Johnson, Faye D. Davis, Clara Diane Brookins Dill, and Charlotte Brookins-Hudson, Esquire; her brother-in-laws Bishop Larry A. Brookins and Clarence L. Brookins; God Sister Anta (Sandee ) Ealy, Sister-Friend Sadie Henderson and Gwen Jones Chapman; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, along with countless dear friends.
