Obituary

Gwendolyn Fae Wierman, affectionately known by her friends and family as Gwen, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 15, 2014. Gwen was a resident of Kennewick Washington for the past 24 years and died at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland Washington at the age of 63. Gwen was born on February 8, 1951 in Lafayette, Indiana to Otto W. Bol and Emily Porter. She had one older brother Leslie and two younger siblings, Forrest and Darlene. Gwen would reflect on growing up with lots of love from all her family. She said that she really enjoyed the holidays where everyone would gather together to play games and fellowship. One of the favorite toys that she received was a Barbie doll. She would make handmade outfits and other items she designed herself to play house. Gwen attended Lafayette Christian School, Sunny Side Junior High School, and Lafayette Jefferson High School. Gwen was married to Charles Wierman in Lafayette, Indiana on August 12, 1972 while they were attending Purdue University. As poor college students one of their favorite activities was to take long quiet strolls in the University's magnificent tree arboretum. Gwen and Chuck took their kids on many traveling adventures across country to visit with family and friends. Izaak and Emily would sit in the backseat picking on each other and complaining which drove Gwen and Chuck crazy; so, once the kids were old enough to drive, they got even by sitting in the backseat and returned the craziness. After many adventures together they settled down in Kennewick, Washington where she completed her Masters in teaching at Washington State University. Gwen became a substitute teacher for Liberty Christian and was known to many of the students as Mrs. "Weirdman". She always said it was the easiest way for them to remember her name and it would bring a smile to her face every time she heard it. She also told us that she never recommended trying to hike home in a blizzard where the snow was up to your waist. Gwen was an amazing artist and loved sharing her art with others and passed the love for it down to her grandchildren. Gwen had a passion to teach others to draw, paint, and just be creative. She loved to do crafts of all kinds, especially knitting and crocheting. She was also an avid reader and had a library that contained over 1,000 books. Perhaps Gwen's greatest accomplishment was to convert Chuck from a mountain man into loving warm salt water. After the conversion they started going every few years on getaways to go snorkeling and walking along the beaches of Hawaii and the Caribbean Islands. Gwen loved holidays and entertaining. Gwen and Emily spent several years spelling Merry Christmas and Happy New Year backwards in lights on the bushes around the house. She also loved to play games or sing with friends and family after a wonderfully prepared meal. She was passionate about spending time with those she loved and making sure they left feeling loved and cared about. Gwen was a woman of faith, and she loved to share it with anyone who was willing to listen. She touched many lives throughout her years as a Sunday school teacher, Children's Church Director and as a volunteer at Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS). She had a passion to teach children the importance of knowing Our Lord Jesus Christ. Gwen spent almost every Christmas planning, preparing and directing a play for the church, just so others would know what Jesus did for them. Gwen was also a part of Aglow in Boise and the Tri-Cities, sitting on the board of directors and enjoyed spending time with the ladies. She also attended many all city prayer groups and stayed well connected to local and national prayer movements. The community also benefited from her talents as a volunteer at Grace Clinic and in making blankets and booties for the Tri-City Pregnancy Centers. Gwen is survived by husband Charles Wierman, son Izaak Wierman, daughter-in-law Kynda Wierman-Curtis, daughter Emily Garner, son-in-law Mark Garner, grandchildren Caden, Zane, Charles & Vanessa, siblings Leslie, Forrest, & Darlene Bol, special niece Lisa Stallings, husband Josh and their four boys as well as fifteen more nieces and nephews; Gwen's parents, Otto & Emily Bol, preceded her in death. Gwen's viewing will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015, 5:00-8:00 PM, Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home at 1401 S. Union St. in Kennewick. There will be a private graveside service prior to her memorial service on January 10, 2015. Gwen's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, 11:00 AM at City Church in Kennewick, WA 4624 W. 10th Ave. in Kennewick. Pastor Darrel Johnsen will be officiating the service. There will be a reception at the church following the service.
