Obituary

Gordon George Hille was born October 4th, 1922 to Emmanuel and Barbara (Gleich) Hille in a one room house in Paha, WA. The family moved to Kennewick when Gordon was two years old and he was later joined by a sister, Yvonne. He called Kennewick his home for the next 92 years, until his passing, family by his side, on January 13, 2017. As a youngster, Gordon played the clarinet, was on the varsity basketball team, became an avid card shark and served as Senior Class President before graduating from Kennewick High School in 1942. Just a few months after graduation, he was drafted during WWII and served from November 1942- February 1946 in the United States and South Pacific. He married the love of his life, Marie Liston, September 12, 1943 while on leave. The two cared for family members while having a family of their own which included three daughters and a son. After his discharge from the Army on February 9, 1946, Gordon returned to Kennewick and began working for General Electric. His career spanned 40+ years and included working for a variety of companies in the Hanford Area. After retirement, he worked a job he loved, pulling soil samples for the USDA (and bestowing mounds of potatoes on his family). Gordon and Marie loved traveling throughout the US, Canada, Europe and beyond. They made many lifelong friends along the way. Gardening, bridge club, church and devoted, loving involvement in their children's lives lead to a very joyful life. Highlights of Gordon's later life including traveling to Washington DC provided by the generosity of Inland Northwest Honor Flight, with his son Dwight Hille. He enjoyed watching college football and baseball with his family, playing cards weekly and spending lots of time with the family he loved. In conversation he would often say, "We sure are lucky we have a great family that loves each other." This was truly what was most important to him. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Emmanuel and Barbara, and his wife Marie of 55 years. He is survived by children Judith (Jerry) Titus, Karen Hille, Brenda (Phil) Baughman and Dwight (Janet) Hille. He was devoted to his grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel (Emmy), and Katherine Titus; Paul (Tami) Baughman, Beth (Chris) Maxson, Jordan (Rusty) Roth, David (Sarah) Hille, and Jenna Hille. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren; Isaac and Ryan Baughman, Hope, Logan and Luke Maxson, Gracelyn, Gabriel, Benjamin and Hannah Roth, Adele and Henry Hille – all of whom he adored. He is also survived by his sister Yvonne and many nieces and nephews. Gordon was active in his church, serving as a deacon, usher, elder and in any other way needed. Gordon and Marie were active members of South Hills Church, in their later years. It could be said that he was truly a member of "The Greatest Generation" and his family would say that he was the Greatest indeed. He was a man who never said an unkind word about anyone. He was patient, kind, loving, and loved. He is deeply loved and missed by his family. Viewing will be held Thursday and Friday, January 19th and 20th, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick.
